To search someone's tweets, type from: and their username into X's search box, add a word or a date, and pick Latest.

This works for any public X (Twitter) account, on x.com or in the app. You get strings to copy for words, dates and replies, the limit that stops your scrolling, and an API route we tested live. We run Weir, the API in Step 6.

Paste this into X's search box, then pick Latest:

from:NASA "heat shield"

Here is the whole job:

  1. Search their wordsfrom:username plus a word or "a phrase".
  2. Narrow itsince:, until: and min_faves: shrink the list.
  3. Search repliesfilter:replies, to:username or conversation_id:.
  4. Use the appType the same strings, then tap Latest.
  5. Go back in timeSearch one month at a time, past the 800-post wall.
  6. Script itWeir's search takes fromUsers, toUsers and onlyReplies.

Step 1: How to search someone's tweets by word

Type from: and the username, then the word you remember. Then pick Latest, which lists matches newest first, while Top shows the posts X ranks highest.

To find Type
A word from:NASA moon
An exact phrase from:NASA "heat shield"
Either of two words from:NASA (moon OR mars)
A word without another from:NASA moon -artemis
A hashtag from:NASA #Artemis
A link to one site from:NASA url:nasa.gov

Leave no space after the colon, and write OR in capitals. Our free X advanced search builder writes these strings from a form.

X also matches words inside links. We ran from:NASA "heat shield" through Weir's API on 22 October 2026. One of the two posts it found never says "heat shield", but its nasa.gov link does.

On a computer, X's Advanced search form does the same job. X's Help Center gives the steps for when you're logged in:

  1. Search for anything in the search box on x.com.
  2. Click Advanced search under Search filters, on the right of your results.
  3. Add their username under People, and your words under Words.
  4. Click Search, then pick Latest.

Step 2: Narrow by date, likes and media

Add filters after the username:

  • since:2026-10-01 until:2026-10-08 keeps posts from 1 to 7 October, because until: leaves out its own day.
  • min_faves:100 keeps posts with at least 100 likes.
  • filter:media keeps posts with an image or video; filter:links keeps posts with a link.
  • lang:en keeps posts that X detected as English.

We tested each one live in October 2026 for our X advanced search operators guide. For hours and time zones, see how to search tweets by date. To rank their biggest posts, see how to see someone's most liked tweets.

Step 3: How to search replies on Twitter

A reply search can mean three different things, so pick yours first:

You want Type
Replies they sent from:NASA filter:replies
Their posts, minus replies from:NASA -filter:replies
Replies other people sent them to:NASA
Every reply in one thread conversation_id:2112959650551173522

Replies to someone never show on their profile. X's Help Center says a reply appears only on the sender's profile. So to:NASA is how you list what people said to @NASA.

conversation_id: takes the ID of the thread's first post, the number after /status/ in its link. X's developer docs say every reply in the thread shares it.

We ran the first search through Weir's API on 22 October 2026, at limit: 3. It returned three replies by @NASA. One, trimmed:

{
  "text": "@NASAMoonBase The journey is just beginning. ...",
  "url": "https://x.com/NASA/status/2112560726397092239",
  "createdAt": "2026-10-20T15:05:01.000Z",
  "inReplyToId": "2112560723603632217",
  "conversationId": "2112560723603632217"
}

Here inReplyToId matches conversationId, so @NASA answered the thread's first post.

Step 4: Search someone's tweets on the X app

The X app has no Advanced search form, so you type the same strings. X's Help Center lists only people and location filters in the app.

  1. Tap Explore, then type from:NASA moon into the search box.
  2. Tap Search, then tap Latest at the top.
  3. For replies, add filter:replies, or search to:NASA instead.

Step 5: Get past the 800-post limit with date windows

You can't scroll back through an active account's tweets, because a profile runs out early. X's Help Center gives the limits:

800most recent posts on a profile's Posts tab
3,200most recent posts and replies on its replies tab
3,200most recent posts in X's API user timeline

@NASA had 74,446 posts when we looked it up on 22 October 2026. Its Posts tab shows about 1% of them.

Search goes further. X says you can search posts from any date since the first public post, so search one month at a time:

from:NASA since:2015-01-01 until:2015-02-01

Our First Tweet Finder builds these windows from a join date. For the very start, see how to find someone's first tweet.

One warning: X's page on missing posts says posts over a week old "may fail to display in timelines or search". So an empty window doesn't prove a post never existed.

Step 6: How to search a Twitter user's tweets by API

For many accounts or a spreadsheet, send the same filters as JSON to Weir's POST /v1/x/search:

  • fromUsers becomes from:, for up to 10 accounts.
  • toUsers becomes to:, for replies sent to them.
  • onlyReplies: true adds filter:replies; onlyOriginal: true adds -filter:replies.
  • since and until take exact times, back to 2006.
curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"fromUsers":["NASA"],"onlyReplies":true,"limit":20}'

Our Step 3 run cost 4 credits: 1 for the call and 1 per post. You page with meta.nextCursor. It stays set after the last page, so a full walk ends with one empty 1-credit call.

The replies endpoint mixes in other people. GET /v1/x/users/{user}/replies returns the profile's Replies tab. Our call for @NASA returned three posts:

author    inReplyToId          what it was
NASA      null                 a NASA post
(hidden) 2112959650551173522 the reply NASA answered
NASA      2112963120083931597  NASA's own reply

We hid the other account's name. To keep only their replies, keep posts by the account where inReplyToId is set. The call cost 6 credits, since a first page also pays for a profile lookup.

Why does search miss some of their tweets?

  • You're on Top. Switch to Latest.
  • The end date is off by a day. until: leaves out its own day.
  • since: holds a time. In our tests, that matched nothing; use since_time: with Unix seconds.
  • The account is protected. X says only the owner and approved followers can search its posts.
  • Safe search hid it. It hides sensitive posts and accounts you muted or blocked.
  • It's a repost. A repost has 0 likes of its own, so a likes floor drops it. Search the original author.
  • They deleted it. X removes deleted posts from its search.

When not to use Weir

  • One account, searched by hand. X's search box is free.
  • You need X's own terms. X's API reads posts at $0.005 each, as of October 2026.
  • Price per post is all that matters. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets, and it can post and push new matches to you.
  • A protected account's posts. Weir reads public data only, so it can't see them.

Weir can't post, and it isn't licensed by X. X's Terms of Service bar scraping without X's written permission, so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

How do I search someone's tweets by word?

Type from: and the username, then the word, as in from:NASA moon. Put a phrase in quotes to keep it together. Then pick Latest, so the matches come newest first.

How do I search only replies on Twitter?

Add filter:replies to your search. from:NASA filter:replies lists replies @NASA sent, while to:NASA lists replies other people sent it. Use -filter:replies when you want their posts with every reply hidden.

Can someone see that I searched their tweets?

X's Help Center says the Notifications timeline shows likes, reposts, replies, mentions and new followers. A search isn't on that list. Liking or replying to a post you found does show up.

How do I see all of someone's tweets?

You can't scroll to them all, because the Posts tab stops at 800. Search from: their username one month at a time on the Latest tab, or page through the months by API.

Can you search someone's tweets on the app?

Yes. Tap Explore, type the same strings into the search box, then tap Latest. The app has no Advanced search form, so from:, to: and filter:replies are the filters you get.
