To search tweets by date on X, add since: and until: to your search, or use the Dates fields in Advanced Search.

This guide is for anyone hunting an old post on X (Twitter), on a computer or a phone. You get strings to copy, the traps we hit in live tests, and an API route for exact times. We run Weir, the API in Step 5.

Paste this into X's search box, then pick Latest:

from:NASA since:2026-10-20 until:2026-10-21

Here is the whole job:

  1. Write the searchWords or from:account, plus since: and until:.
  2. Or fill in the formAdvanced Search on x.com has From and To dates.
  3. Pick LatestMatches come newest first, not ranked.
  4. Narrow to hourssince_time: and until_time: take Unix seconds.
  5. Go by APIWeir's since and until take exact times.

Step 1: Search tweets by date with since: and until:

Two operators set the dates. You type them into X's search box:

  • since:2026-10-01 finds posts on or after 1 October.
  • until:2026-10-08 finds posts before 8 October. That day itself is left out.
  • Both together make a date range, so the pair above covers 1 to 7 October.
  • from:NASA keeps one account's posts, which is how you search someone's tweets by date.

Write each date as year, month and day, with no space after the colon. A date alone isn't a search, so you add a word, a hashtag or from:.

We tested the end date. X's Help Center doesn't say whether until: counts its own day. On 22 October 2026, from:NASA since:2026-10-20 until:2026-10-21 returned nothing from 21 October, though @NASA posted that day.

So for one whole day, set until: to the day after. Copy the pattern you need:

To find Type
One day since:2026-10-20 until:2026-10-21
A whole month since:2026-09-01 until:2026-10-01
Someone's posts in a week from:NASA since:2026-10-13 until:2026-10-20
Replies to an account to:NASA since:2026-10-01 until:2026-10-08
A hashtag before a date #Artemis until:2026-01-01

Our free X advanced search builder writes these strings for you from a form.

Mind midnight. X doesn't say which time zone these dates use. Igor Brigadir's operator reference says X's times are UTC, so widen your window by a day when a post sits near midnight.

Step 2: Use Advanced Search on x.com

Advanced Search is the same filter as a form, and X's Help Center says it works when you're logged in. On x.com:

  1. Search for anything in the search box.
  2. Click Advanced search under Search filters, or open More options and pick it there.
  3. Under Dates, pick a From date, a To date, or both.
  4. Add an account under People if you want one person's posts, then click Search.

You can also open x.com/search-advanced directly. Logged out, that link sends you to sign in first.

X's own help example, a search between 30 December 2013 and 2 January 2014, links to since:2013-12-30 until:2014-01-02. So treat the To date like until: and pick the day after your last day.

Step 3: Search tweets by date on mobile

The X app has no date form, so on a phone you type the operators or use x.com in your browser.

X's Help Center lists the search filters you get in the app on iPhone and Android. They cover people and location only: All people or People you follow, and Everywhere or Near you. Advanced Search sits in the desktop steps.

So on a phone, you have two routes:

  • In the app, tap Explore, type from:NASA since:2026-10-20 until:2026-10-21 into the search box, and tap Search. Then tap Latest.
  • In Safari or Chrome, open x.com/search-advanced, sign in, and fill in the form as you would on a computer.

Step 4: Narrow a search to the hour

X now reads since: and until: by whole days. For hours, you need since_time: and until_time:, which take Unix seconds.

Older guides, including Brigadir's reference, write times like since:2026-10-21_15:00:00_UTC. That form now fails quietly.

You can get the seconds from any epoch converter, or in a Linux terminal:

date -u -d "2026-10-21 15:00" +%s   # 1792594800
date -u -d "2026-10-21 21:00" +%s   # 1792616400

Then search the window:

from:NASA since_time:1792594800 until_time:1792616400

We ran the same six hours both ways on 22 October 2026, through Weir's search, which passes your query to X as typed:

0posts with the hours written into since: and until:
2posts with since_time: and until_time:
6 hoursthe window, 15:00 to 21:00 UTC on 21 October

The older post of the two, trimmed:

{
  "id": "2112959650551173522",
  "text": "\"I just hear over and over again: 'I felt like I went on the mission with you'.\" ...",
  "url": "https://x.com/NASA/status/2112959650551173522",
  "createdAt": "2026-10-21T17:30:12.000Z",
  "likeCount": 414
}

Unix seconds carry no time zone, so they also fix your midnight problem.

Want to know exactly when a post went out? Paste its link into our tweet ID to date converter. It reads the time from the post's ID, to the millisecond.

Step 5: Search tweets by date through an API

If you want a tweet finder by date in code, Weir's search takes since and until as full timestamps. It turns them into post-ID bounds, so a ten-minute window is exact.

curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"fromUsers":["NASA"],"since":"2026-10-21T15:00:00Z","until":"2026-10-21T21:00:00Z","limit":20}'

We ran this window on 22 October 2026. It returned the same two posts as since_time: and cost 3 credits: 1 for the call and 1 per post.

Search reaches back to 2006. Posts from before November 2010 have IDs with no time inside, so those dates work in whole days. Our historical Twitter data guide covers that era.

  • Weir's first 5,000 credits each month are free, with no card needed.
  • X's own full-archive search takes exact start_time and end_time values, back to March 2006, at $0.005 per post read as of October 2026.
  • For a whole account, see how to download all tweets from a user.

Why does Twitter search by date miss posts?

X's Help Center says plainly that X "may not show every post in search results." Most gaps still have a cause you can fix:

  • You're on Top. Switch to Latest, which sorts by time instead of ranking.
  • The end date is off by one. until: leaves its own day out.
  • You wrote a time. since: with an hour matches nothing; use since_time:.
  • The account is protected. Only approved followers see its posts in search.
  • Safe search hid it. It filters sensitive posts and accounts you muted or blocked. Turn it off under Search settings.
  • It's a repost and you filtered reposts out. Drop -filter:nativeretweets, as our search operator tests explain.

Deleted posts never come back in X search.

When not to use Weir

  • You search by hand. X's search box is free and takes every string here.
  • A contract with X is required. Use its full-archive search.
  • Each request must return 500 posts. X's archive pages hold far more than our 20.
  • Price per post is all that matters. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets, and it can also post and push matches to a webhook.

Weir reads public data only and can't post. X's Terms of Service bar scraping without X's written permission, so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

Can you search Twitter by date?

Yes. You add since: and until: to any search on X, or use the Dates fields in Advanced Search on x.com. X's Help Center says you can search back to the first public post, from 2006.

How do I search tweets by date on iPhone?

The X app has no date form. Type the operators into its search box, then tap Latest. Or open x.com/search-advanced in Safari, sign in, and use the form there.

Why is Twitter search by date not working?

Pick Latest instead of Top. Set until: to the day after your last day. Then remove any time from since:, because X now ignores it, and use since_time: for hours.

How do I find a tweet from a specific date?

Search that day alone: since: the day and until: the next, plus a word or from: with the account. Pick Latest. To check a post's exact time, paste its link into a tweet ID to date converter.

How do I find old tweets from someone?

Use from:username with a date window, such as one month at a time, and pick Latest. If you need every post in a spreadsheet, walk the years by API instead of scrolling.
