To find someone's first tweet, read the join date on their profile, then search from: their username over their first weeks and pick Latest.

This works for any public X (Twitter) account, and it needs no app or tool. You get searches to copy, the archive route for your own first post, and an API walk we ran on @NASA. We run Weir, the API in Step 4.

Paste this into X's search box, pick Latest, and scroll to the bottom:

from:NASA since:2007-12-15 until:2007-12-22

The whole method:

  1. Read the join dateEvery profile shows when the account joined.
  2. Search the first weekfrom:username plus since: and until:.
  3. Pick Latest and scroll downThe last result is the oldest post.
  4. Move the window if emptyTry the next week, then the next month.
  5. Or walk it by APIPage to the end; the last post is the first.

Step 1: Read the join date on the profile

An account can't post before it exists, so its join date is where your search starts.

Every X profile shows a joined date, and X's Help Center tells you to click it to open "About this account."

The profile gives the month, and an API lookup gives the exact second as createdAt. We fetched @NASA's profile through Weir on 22 October 2026:

{
  "username": "NASA",
  "createdAt": "2007-12-19T20:20:32.000Z",
  "statusesCount": 74446
}

That's 74,446 posts, far too many to scroll.

X's developer docs also cap an account's timeline at its 3,200 most recent posts.

Step 2: Search their first weeks on the Latest tab

A short date window turns tens of thousands of posts into one screen.

Run these in order, and you can stop at the first one with results:

Window For @NASA, joined December 2007
Days 1 to 7 from:NASA since:2007-12-01 until:2007-12-08
Days 8 to 14 from:NASA since:2007-12-08 until:2007-12-15
Days 15 to 21 from:NASA since:2007-12-15 until:2007-12-22
Day 22 to the month's end from:NASA since:2007-12-22 until:2008-01-01
The next month from:NASA since:2008-01-01 until:2008-02-01

Swap in the username and the join month, or let our free X advanced search builder write them. until: leaves its own day out, so each window ends the day before it says.

Pick Latest, then scroll to the bottom. Top ranks posts by engagement. Latest lists matches newest first, so the oldest sits last.

X's own Help Center links searches as x.com/search?q= plus the encoded search, so this link opens the third window:

https://x.com/search?q=from%3ANASA%20since%3A2007-12-15%20until%3A2007-12-22

On a phone, the X app has no date form, so type the search into its search box instead. Our guide to searching tweets by date covers mobile and Advanced Search.

What we found. @NASA joined on 19 December 2007, so the first two windows come back empty. Days 15 to 21 hold ten posts, and the bottom one is its first tweet still on X:

{
  "id": "519335762",
  "text": "Apollo 17: Thirty-five years ago this week on Dec http://tinyurl.com/2h2g26",
  "url": "https://x.com/NASA/status/519335762",
  "createdAt": "2007-12-20T23:33:13.000Z",
  "likeCount": 169
}

It went out the day after @NASA joined.

Step 3: Find your own first tweet in your X archive

For your own account, the archive is the sure route. X's Help Center says it lets you browse your data "starting with your first post."

  1. Open Settings and privacy from your profile icon, then tap Account.
  2. Tap Your X data under Data and permissions, and verify with a code.
  3. Tap Request data next to X, under Download your data.
  4. Download the ZIP when X emails or notifies you.

X says preparing it may take a few days. The ZIP holds HTML and JSON files, covering your posts, media and Direct Messages. Our free Twitter archive viewer opens the ZIP in your browser and sorts your posts oldest first.

If you can't wait, run the Step 2 search with your own username.

Step 4: Find the first tweet of an account by API

For many accounts, or for code, page through the window by API instead of scrolling. Weir's search takes fromUsers plus since and until:

curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"fromUsers":["NASA"],"since":"2007-12-19T00:00:00Z","until":"2007-12-25T00:00:00Z","limit":20}'

Send meta.nextCursor back until it's null, and the last post you receive is the first tweet.

We walked @NASA's first six days this way on 22 October 2026, at limit: 5:

11posts in @NASA's first six days
4pages, the last one empty
15credits for the whole walk

Weir charges you 1 credit per call plus 1 per post, and the empty last page costs 1. The 5,000 free credits each month cover about 300 walks this size.

The same walk reaches X's first days. On 21 October 2026, our search for @jack returned post 20, "just setting up my twttr", from 21 March 2006.

Before November 2010, since and until work in whole days. After that, they're exact to the second, and our tweet ID to date converter reads any post's time from its link.

Check the Wayback Machine if search fails

An old snapshot of the profile can show early posts that search can't. The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine keeps copies of old twitter.com profiles.

Its earliest copy of @NASA, from 13 January 2008, shows 42 updates and that week's posts as plain text. Open web.archive.org, enter twitter.com/username, and pick the oldest year in the calendar.

Newer copies help less. The raw page of a January 2025 copy of x.com/NASA held only the app's loading shell, with no posts. Smaller accounts may have no early copy at all.

Why can't I find someone's first tweet?

  • They deleted it. Search shows only posts still on X, so you get the oldest one left.
  • The account is protected. Only approved followers see its posts in search.
  • You're on Top. Switch to Latest, or the oldest posts may never show.
  • Your window ends a day early. until: leaves its own day out.
  • They waited to post. Some accounts sit quiet for months, so keep moving the window.

When not to use Weir

  • It's your own account. The archive is free and starts with your first post.
  • You're checking one account by hand. X's search box is free and does the job.
  • A contract with X is required. X's full-archive search costs $0.005 per post read, as of October 2026.
  • Price per post is all that matters. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets, and it can also post.

Weir reads public data only and can't post. X's Terms of Service bar scraping without X's written permission, so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

How do you find someone's first tweet without scrolling?

Search a short window from their join month, such as from:NASA since:2007-12-15 until:2007-12-22, and pick Latest. A short window keeps the list small, and the last result is the oldest post.

Is there still a first tweet finder?

Twitter's own one is gone. Its 2014 #FirstTweet page at discover.twitter.com/first-tweet now redirects to X's About page. A from: search over the join month does the same job, free, and our First Tweet Finder builds those searches for you.

How do I find my first tweet?

Request your X archive under Settings and privacy, Account, then Your X data. X says the archive starts with your first post. It can take a few days, so search from: your own username in your join month meanwhile.

How do I see someone's oldest tweets?

Use the same windows: from:username, since: at the join month, and Latest. Then move forward a month at a time to read their first year in order.
