WEIR

Twitter scraper

A Twitter scraper you call as an API, with no X account to lose.

Search X posts and read threads, replies, profiles, followers and Lists with one key. Weir does the collecting, so there is no headless browser, no account cookies, and no script to fix every time X changes.

What is the best way to scrape Twitter in 2026?

It depends on the job. For your own posts, download your X archive. For official access at volume, the X API is pay-per-use, from $0.005 a post. Open-source scrapers such as twscrape sign in with an X account's cookies, which puts that account at risk and breaks when X changes. A pay-per-result API like Weir reads public posts with no X login, with 5,000 free credits a month. Whichever you pick, read X's terms first.

Updated October 2026.

Why Twitter scrapers keep breaking

In mid-2023 X put most of the site behind a login, and the scrapers that read it logged out stopped working: snscrape's issue "All Twitter scrapes are failing" has been open since 30 June 2023. The ones that still work sign in with a real account's cookies, so that account can be locked, and every change X makes to its site means fixing the scraper. Nitter, the front end many tools read instead, is archived.

No X account at risk

Weir needs no X login, cookies or developer app. Sign up with email or Google and get a key that reads X and Reddit.

Nothing to maintain

When X changes its site, we fix the collection. Your code keeps calling the same endpoints and gets the same fields.

JSON, not HTML

Posts come back with X's own field names (likeCount, retweetCount, viewCount, conversationId) and a cursor for the next page.

Pay only for results

A call costs one credit plus one per post, a call that fails costs nothing, and the first 5,000 credits every month are free.

Search the latest posts on a topic, 20 at a time

Every endpoint and its parameters are in the docs.

Questions

Is Weir a Twitter scraper?

Weir collects public X data and returns it through an API, so you get what a scraper gives you without running one. It is an independent service, not the official X API, and it only reads: it never posts, likes or follows.

Do I need an X account or cookies?

No. You need a Weir key, which you get by signing up with email or Google. Your X account is not involved, so it cannot be locked for anything Weir does.

Can I use it from Python?

Yes. It is a plain JSON API, so the requests library, or urllib from the standard library, is enough. The Python guide on our blog has a script that searches, pages and saves posts to CSV.

Is scraping Twitter legal?

X's terms say you cannot scrape its services without X's express written permission, and Weir is not affiliated with X. Courts have treated scraping public data case by case. This is not legal advice: check X's terms and, for commercial use, ask a lawyer.
