How to open your Twitter archive
- Request it on X under Settings and privacy, then Account, then Your X data. Verify with the code X sends, then request your data. X’s help page has the current steps.
- X sends an email or a notification when it’s ready. Download the ZIP.
- Drop the ZIP on the box above. You don’t need to unzip it.
Why tweets.js won’t open in Excel
The archive keeps your posts in data/tweets.js. It’s JSON data behind one line of JavaScript, window.YTD.tweets.part0 =, so a spreadsheet or text editor shows a wall of code. This viewer drops that line, reads every post, and writes one row per post. Big accounts get extra files, tweets-part1.js and up, and it reads them all from the ZIP.
What’s in the CSV
- id, created_at and url: the post id, its time in UTC, and its link on X.
- type: post, reply or repost.
- text: the full text, with t.co links expanded.
- likes and reposts: the counts when X built your archive.
- reply_to_id, reply_to_user, lang, links and media: what each post replied to, its language, and its links and images.
X gives you an archive of your own account only. For another account’s public posts, see how to download all tweets from a user. To read the exact time from any post id, use the tweet ID to date converter.
