How to See Someone's Mentions on Twitter (2026)
See someone's mentions on Twitter with one search: the exact query, how to drop their own posts and reposts, and the @NASA mentions we pulled with it.

To see someone's mentions on Twitter, search X for @username -from:username and open the Latest tab.
Other people's profiles have no mentions tab on X (Twitter), so search is how you see them. You get the queries, the filters that cut the noise, and a way to get alerts. We run Weir, the API in Step 5.
Paste this into X's search box, swap in any username, and pick Latest:
@NASA -from:NASA -filter:nativeretweets
- Search @usernameIn X's search box, on the Latest tab.
- Drop their own postsAdd -from:username.
- Drop repostsAdd -filter:nativeretweets.
- Narrow itAdd a date range or a likes floor.
- Automate itAn API search or a daily monitor.
Step 1: Check your own mentions in Notifications
Open Notifications and pick the Mentions tab. That's where X collects posts that tag you.
X's Help Center defines a mention as a post with your username "anywhere in the body of the post." It says these land in your Notifications tab, along with your replies.
That tab only ever shows your own account. For anyone else, you need search.
Step 2: How to see someone's mentions on Twitter with search
To find mentions of another user, you search. X's Help Center says visiting their profile "will not display posts that mention them," and points you to search instead.
Type the username with its @ into the search box:
@NASA -from:NASA
Each part has a job:
@NASAmatches posts that tag the account. X's API docs describe it as "Matches Posts mentioning a username."-from:NASAremoves the account's own posts, so you only see what others said.- The Latest tab puts the newest first. Top is X's own pick of popular posts.
Reposts show up too. In our October 2026 tests, X search returned reposts by default. Add -filter:nativeretweets to keep only original posts and replies.
Step 3: Use to: when you only want replies
to: and @ find different posts, and picking the wrong one hides results. X's API docs say to: "Matches Posts in reply to a specific user."
| Search | What it finds | What it misses |
|---|---|---|
@NASA -from:NASA |
Any post by others with @NASA | Posts without the @ |
to:NASA |
Replies to NASA's posts | New posts that tag NASA |
from:NASA |
NASA's own posts | Everything others posted |
Pick @ for what people say about an account, and to: for its reply section only. For what the account itself posted, see how to search someone's tweets.
Our test below shows the gap. One result tagged @NASA inside a reply to another person's post, so to:NASA would not match it.
Step 4: Narrow mentions with Twitter advanced search
A big account gets tagged all day. Two more operators turn the flood into a short list.
Dates. Add since: and until: with a day:
@NASA -from:NASA since:2026-10-01 until:2026-10-08
until: leaves out its own day, so this covers 1 to 7 October. X reads both dates as whole days in UTC.
Likes. Add min_faves: to keep only posts with at least that many likes:
@NASA -from:NASA -filter:nativeretweets min_faves:1000
Prefer a form? X's advanced search works when you're logged in on x.com. Its People section has a field for posts that mention an account.
Our free X advanced search builder writes the @, date and likes parts from a form. Add -from: yourself. Our guide to X search operators lists the rest.
Step 5: How to find tweets mentioning someone by API
Weir's search takes a mentions field, and the query field passes X operators through as typed:
curl --request POST \
--url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
--header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{"mentions":["NASA"],"query":"-from:NASA -filter:nativeretweets","minLikes":1000,"limit":3}'
We ran this search on 22 October 2026:
Two of the three came from well-known accounts:
[
{
"author": { "username": "RocketLab", "followersCount": 655016 },
"createdAt": "2026-10-20T20:31:53.000Z",
"text": "The first multi-spacecraft science mission to Mars is about to make its big move. ...",
"likeCount": 1865
},
{
"author": { "username": "NASAJohnson", "followersCount": 2258192 },
"createdAt": "2026-10-20T19:33:34.000Z",
"text": "Some moments are worth floating back to. ...",
"likeCount": 1210
}
]
The third was a reply from a personal account, with 1,202 likes. It tagged @NASA in a thread started by someone else.
Each post comes back with its author, counts, createdAt and url. Pass meta.nextCursor back as cursor for the next page, and stop when it is null.
Step 6: Get an alert when someone is mentioned
A Weir monitor runs your search on a schedule and keeps only new posts. Point a search target at X with the same query:
curl --request POST --url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
--header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{"name": "NASA mentions", "schedule": "daily",
"target": {"kind": "search", "query": "@NASA -from:NASA -filter:nativeretweets", "sources": ["x"]}}'
Each run reads one page of the newest matches, about 20 posts. Weir's docs say a busier search loses the oldest posts between runs.
For a busy account, add min_faves: to the query, or move to hourly on a paid tier. The free tier holds one monitor.
Each run costs a 1-credit minimum plus 1 per new post. Reading the results is free. To send each new mention to Slack or a database, follow our brand mention monitor tutorial, which adds a signed webhook.
If you can't see someone's mentions
- The author's posts are protected. X's Help Center says only approved followers see protected posts in search.
- It names them without the @. Search the plain name as well.
- You're on Top. Switch to Latest for the newest posts, not X's pick.
- Search skipped it. X's Help Center says it "may not show every post in search results."
When not to use Weir
- You check one account by hand. X's search box does all of this for free.
- You want your own mentions. The Mentions tab and X's notifications already cover you.
- You need a contract with X. X's API has a mentions timeline that reaches "up to 800 most recent mentions," at $0.005 per post read, as of October 2026.
- Price per post is what matters. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets, and it can also post.
Weir is read-only, reads public data only, and isn't licensed by X, so access can change. X's Terms of Service say you "cannot scrape the Services without X's express written permission," so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.
FAQ
Can you see someone else's mentions on Twitter?
Yes, through search, not their profile. Search @username -from:username and pick Latest. You'll see public posts that tag them. Posts from protected accounts stay hidden unless you're an approved follower.
How do I find tweets mentioning someone on X?
Search their username with the @, such as @NASA. Add -from:NASA to drop their own posts and -filter:nativeretweets to drop reposts. Search the plain name too, because untagged posts won't match an @ search.
What's the difference between @username and to:username?
@username finds any post that tags the account, anywhere in the text. to:username finds only replies to that account's posts. Use @ for everything people say about them, and to: for their reply section.
How do I check my Twitter mentions?
Open Notifications and pick the Mentions tab. X collects the posts that tag you there, along with replies to you. To find older mentions, search @yourname -from:yourname and add a date range with since: and until:.
