Unroll a Twitter Thread in 2026: Bot, Free Reader or PDF

Thread Reader App's bot still replies, but pasting links on its site is now Premium. Unroll a Twitter thread free, save a PDF, or hand it to ChatGPT.

To unroll a Twitter thread, reply "@threadreaderapp unroll" under any post in it, or paste its link into a free thread reader.

Either way, you get the author's posts on one page, in order, without the replies. We checked both on 5 November 2026 and added PDF and AI tips. We run Weir, which powers the second route.

Copy this and post it as a reply to the thread on X (Twitter):

@threadreaderapp unroll

All you need is the link to any post in the thread:

  1. Copy any post's linkShare icon, then Copy link to Post.
  2. Unroll itReply to the bot, or paste the link in a reader.
  3. Keep a copyCopy the Markdown, or print to PDF.

How to unroll a Twitter thread with the unroll bot

The bot from Thread Reader App is the free way to unroll a thread on Twitter if you have an X account. You reply, and it answers with a link.

  1. Open any post of the thread on X. Its help page says it needs a real thread, not a single post.
  2. Reply @threadreaderapp unroll from your X account.
  3. Open the link in the bot's reply to read the thread as one page.

You can share that page, even with people who aren't on X.

The bot still answers: we read its posts through Weir's search on 5 November 2026, at about 20:00 UTC.

$3a month to paste links on its site

Your reply is public and sits under the author's post. To keep it out of their replies, quote the post with the same words: Thread Reader App says that request shows "on your timeline only."

Its website is a different story. Because of an X API change, Thread Reader App is "limiting this feature to Premium members only." To paste a link there, you now need a paid plan.

Unroll an X thread free with our Twitter thread reader

Our free Twitter thread reader shows a whole thread on one page from the link of any post in it. You don't need an X account. We built it on Weir's API.

You get the author's posts in reading order, with buttons to Copy as Markdown, Copy text or Download .md.

We ran the reader's call on @NASA's spacewalk thread of 5 November 2026, passing its last post. All 7 posts came back, first post first, for 8 credits. The reader's Copy as Markdown turns them into this, trimmed:

# Thread by NASA (@NASA)

The first post showed 155 replies, but you get only NASA's own posts.

To try it, paste any post's link and press Run. The first time, you sign in to Weir, which is free with 5,000 credits a month and no card.

Each run costs you 1 credit plus 1 per post.

Is there a Thread Reader App alternative?

Yes. The right one depends on whether you have an X account. Here is what each asks of you, per its own pages on 5 November 2026:

Option Cost to unroll You need PDF
Thread Reader App bot Free An X account Premium, or print
Thread Reader App website $3 a month A Premium plan Yes
Weir thread reader (ours) Free monthly credits A Weir account Print
TwitterShots Not listed Maybe a sign-in Pro, $6.99 a month

Use the bot for a quick read on X, and our reader when you have no X account or want Markdown. If you want ready-made PDF archives, Thread Reader App Premium fits.

PingThread is another unroll bot, but we couldn't confirm it still works. The newest reply from it in our search dates from June 2023.

X itself has no unroll button that we could find on 5 November 2026. Its help page says threads of 4 or more posts get cut short in timelines, with a Show this thread link that expands them. Its Premium help page lists no reader mode either.

How do you unroll a Twitter thread to PDF?

Open the unrolled page and print it to PDF from your browser. It's free and works on any reader page. Google's Chrome Help gives the steps:

  • Chrome on a computer: click File, then Print, or press Ctrl+P (⌘+P on a Mac). Set the destination to Save as PDF and save.
  • Chrome on Android: tap More, Share, then Print, and pick Save as PDF.

Keep a PDF of threads you care about, because Thread Reader App says it must delete threads that are deleted on X.

Want an editable copy instead? Our reader's Download .md saves a Markdown file with the author, date and a link back, ready for Notion or Obsidian.

Give an unrolled thread to ChatGPT or Claude

ChatGPT and Claude mostly can't open x.com links, as our test of AI assistants found, so hand them the thread.

The quick way: press Copy as Markdown in our reader and paste it into the chat. Then ask for a summary in 3 bullets.

With Weir connected as a custom connector at https://api.weirapp.io/mcp, your AI can fetch the thread itself with the get_x_thread tool. Paste this:

Use get_x_thread on https://x.com/NASA/status/2118432880229486766 and summarize the thread in 3 bullets with times.

We ran it in Claude Code with Weir connected: one call, 8 credits, and this reply.

- 12:00 UTC: NASA's live stream opened for a spacewalk of about seven hours.
- 13:52 to 17:39 UTC: two spacewalkers moved the new solar array and unfolded it.
- 19:58 UTC: the array was installed. Fully deployed, it adds up to 30% more power.

For developers: the same thread as JSON

Behind all of this is one call: get_x_thread over MCP, or GET /v1/x/posts/{id}/thread over REST. We passed the last post's id:

{
  "data": [
    {
      "id": "2118312556548784475",
      "text": "LIVE: Watch as @astro_anil and Joshua Kutryk of @csa_asc install ...",
      "createdAt": "2026-11-05T12:00:44.000Z",
      "inReplyToId": null
    },
    "... 5 more posts ...",
    { "id": "2118432880229486766", "inReplyToId": "2118397868562071609" }
  ],
  "meta": { "creditsCharged": 8 }
}

Each later post's inReplyToId points at the post before it, which is how X chains a thread.

Over REST, the x-credits-charged header shows what you paid. For Python code, Obsidian notes and X's own route, read our Twitter thread API guide.

If the unroll doesn't work

  • The post was deleted. Nothing can read it, and our reader's failed call costs you nothing.
  • It's a protected account. Only approved followers see it, so no tool here can read it.
  • You replied to a reply. The bot unrolls only "consecutive tweets from the same author."
  • The author mixed in replies to others. Our reader keeps only the author's own chain.
  • A long thread stops early. Our reader ends at X's "Show more" fold.

When not to use Weir

  • You have an X account and unroll now and then. The bot is free and needs no sign-up.
  • Automatic PDF archives matter most. Thread Reader App Premium can send them to Google Drive or Dropbox.
  • The replies are what you want. Our reader skips them, so export the tweet replies.
  • Posting is the goal. Weir is read-only: see how to make a thread on Twitter.

Weir is not affiliated with X and reads public posts only, so access can change.

FAQ

What does it mean to unroll a Twitter thread?

It means showing all of a thread's posts on one page, in order, like an article. The author's posts stay, and other people's replies drop out. You can then read, copy or print the thread in one go.

Is Thread Reader App free?

Partly. You can unroll by mention on X for free, and Thread Reader App says that "will always be free." Pasting a link on its website needs Premium, at $3 a month as of November 2026. Premium also adds PDF archives and removes ads.

Why didn't the unroll bot reply?

Thread Reader App's help page lists the reasons. The thread you picked may already have many unroll requests, or the bot may have hit its monthly X API cap. It also can't reply if your account is private, or if the author limited who can reply.

Can I unroll a Twitter thread without an X account?

Yes. The bot needs an X account, because you post a reply. Our free thread reader needs only a free Weir account: paste any post's link and press Run. If you used XCancel for this, see what happened to XCancel.

Does the author see that I unrolled their thread?

Your unroll reply is public and sits under their post. Thread Reader App says a quote post request shows on your timeline only. Our reader posts nothing on X, so the author sees nothing from it.
