For a Twitter video search, type your words plus filter:videos in the search box, and only posts with a video come back.
This guide is for anyone hunting a clip on X (Twitter). You get the searches we tested on 5 November 2026 and what they really returned.
We run Weir, the API in Step 5. Paste this into X's search box, then swap in your own words:
nasa filter:videos
- Search videos onlyAdd filter:videos to your words.
- Pick one accountfrom:NASA filter:videos
- Find popular clipsAdd min_faves: and stay on Top.
- Go back in timesince: and until: for old videos.
- Get the MP4 linksA short script or one AI prompt.
Step 1: Run a Twitter video search with filter:videos
Type your words, add filter:videos, and press Enter. It's your simplest way to filter Twitter search by video.
X's Help Center (20 October 2026 copy) also lists a Videos filter above results on iOS, Android and the web. The operator goes further: it stacks with an account, dates and a likes floor.
We ran nasa filter:videos through Weir, which passes operators to X as typed, and compared two others:
filter:native_video returned the same 10 posts. filter:media mixed in 8 photo posts and a GIF, so use it only when you want both.
GIFs are the catch: in our tests, X didn't count them as video. A GIF post that filter:media found was missing from filter:videos over the same minute. To find GIFs, search filter:media -filter:images -filter:videos: all 5 posts we got back were GIFs.
Step 2: Search for videos on someone's Twitter profile
Add from: and a username, and you get only that account's videos:
from:NASA filter:videos -filter:nativeretweets
The last part drops reposts, which X search shows you by default.
Our 5 November run returned five NASA clips from that day's spacewalk, each a 4K MP4.
Unlike scrolling the profile, a search lets you add dates and a likes floor. Our free X advanced search builder writes it for you: pick With video under Links and media.
Step 3: Find the most popular videos with min_faves:
Add min_faves: and you keep only videos with at least that many likes. Stay on Top:
from:NASA filter:videos min_faves:100000
On Top, with reposts dropped and a limit of 5, we got these, sorted here by likes:
What that run tells you:
- Top isn't a likes sort. X listed the 2022 DART clip last.
- The floor is loose. The hatch post had only 13,258 likes, so check each count.
- Not every result has a file. The launch stream post only links to a live broadcast.
Step 4: Find old videos on Twitter with since: and until:
Add a date range, and you can search any past week:
from:NASA filter:videos since:2024-04-08 until:2024-04-09
until: includes its own day, so your search covers two full days. NASA streamed the total solar eclipse on 8 April 2024.
On Top, with reposts dropped and a limit of 5, we got:
The YouTube one, NASA's Spanish watch party, has no X video. So filter:videos also counts links to streams and YouTube, and filter:native_video returned the same five posts.
You can't save a file from such posts, and the Step 5 script flags them.
Step 5: Get the video links with Python or an AI agent
For a list, run the search through Weir's API. This standard-library script prints each post's link, likes and MP4 link:
import json, os, sys, urllib.request
body = {"query": sys.argv[1], "limit": 5} # e.g. "from:NASA filter:videos"
req = urllib.request.Request(
"https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search",
data=json.dumps(body).encode(),
headers={"Authorization": "Bearer " + os.environ["WEIR_API_KEY"],
"Content-Type": "application/json"},
)
with urllib.request.urlopen(req, timeout=60) as resp:
print("credits:", resp.headers["x-credits-charged"])
for post in json.load(resp)["data"]:
mp4 = [m["url"] for m in post["media"] if m["type"] == "video" and m["url"]]
print(post["url"], post["likeCount"], mp4[0] if mp4 else "no MP4 (link or live)")
Save it as video_search.py, set WEIR_API_KEY, then run:
python video_search.py "from:NASA filter:videos min_faves:100000"
We ran it on 5 November 2026. It found five NASA videos from April, for 6 credits. Two lines, trimmed:
credits: 6
https://x.com/NASA/status/2042791040516845925 207045 https://video.twimg.com/amplify_video/.../3840x2160/SvXhn0UkzvCh7xdB.mp4?tag=21
https://x.com/NASA/status/2042756933686337713 381767 https://video.twimg.com/amplify_video/.../3840x2160/utCRvfDZCRKpceEZ.mp4?tag=21
The post with 381,767 likes is the Artemis II splashdown. Each search costs you one credit plus one per post. Your first 5,000 credits each month are free, with no card.
To save the files, see our Twitter video download API guide.
With Weir's MCP server connected to Claude or ChatGPT, paste one line instead:
Use Weir's search_x with the query "from:NASA filter:videos min_faves:100000" and list each post's link, likes and MP4 link.
Which Twitter video search operators work in 2026?
Igor Brigadir's operator reference, last checked in 2022, lists many media filters. We ran six of them on 5 November 2026, and our operator test page covers the others:
| Operator | What came back |
|---|---|
filter:videos |
Video posts, plus stream and YouTube links |
filter:native_video |
The same posts as filter:videos |
filter:media |
Photos, GIFs and video together |
filter:twimg |
Mostly photos: 4 of 5 posts |
filter:consumer_video |
Nothing |
filter:pro_video |
Nothing |
Brigadir's reference says filter:videos takes in YouTube while filter:native_video keeps X's own video. In our tests the two matched the same posts, links and all, so you can use either one.
No operator filters by length: we found none in X's Help Center or Brigadir's list. Weir's media items carry no duration, but X's official API lists duration_ms for videos.
How to find the original video: reverse video search
X's search takes words and filters, not pictures, per its Help Center. To trace a clip, pause it on a clear frame and take a screenshot. Then:
- Google: on google.com, click Search by image and upload the screenshot, per Google's help page.
- TinEye: upload or paste the frame, then sort by Oldest. TinEye says that sort "shows the earliest known instance of images first."
A match shows you where else the frame appears. Then search X for the words around it, with until: set before the copy you saw.
By API there is one more clue: a video's media[].id holds its upload time, like a post id. NASA's eclipse clip from space has an id 14 seconds older than its post.
One recent post in our searches carried a clip whose id dates to 24 January 2025: an old clip, posted again. Paste an id into our Tweet ID to date tool to read it.
Why does my Twitter video search show nothing?
- Your filters are too tight. Lower
min_faves:or widen the dates. - It was a GIF. Use the GIF search from Step 1.
- Search skipped it. X's Help Center says it "may not show every post in search results."
When not to use Weir
- You search by hand now and then. X's search box and our free builder cost nothing.
- You need each video's length. Weir returns no duration, while X's API lists
duration_ms. - You need a contract with X. X's API charges $0.005 per post read, as of November 2026.
Weir reads public posts only and can't post. X's Terms of Service say you "cannot scrape the Services without X's express written permission," so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.
FAQ
How do I search only videos on Twitter?
Add filter:videos to your search, such as nasa filter:videos. The Videos filter above the results works without typing. Add from: for one account and min_faves: for popular clips.
How do I find videos I watched on Twitter?
We found no watch history in X's Help Center. To get a video back, bookmark or like it: your bookmarks are private, and so are your likes since June 2024. To find a specific video you only scrolled past, see how to find a tweet you saw.
Can I search Twitter videos without an account?
X's Help Center says advanced search "is available when you're logged in to X.com," and we don't cover ways around that. Weir's API is another route: it needs a free Weir key, not an X account. We run Weir.
Does Twitter advanced search have a video filter?
Not in its form, which gives you words, people, places and dates. Type filter:videos into the search box, or pick With video in our free builder.
