If X search is not showing all results, switch from Top to Latest and turn off safe search, which hides muted and blocked accounts.

This guide is for you if a post on X (Twitter) exists but search won't show it. You get each cause with its fix, and what happened when we tested two popular claims about hidden posts.

Paste this into X's search box, swap in a username and dates, then tap Latest:

from:NASA since:2025-03-03 until:2025-03-04

Why is X search not showing all results?

X admits it: its Help Center says it "may not show every post in search results." Here is what usually hides a post, with the fix:

Why it's missing The fix
You're on the Top tab Tap Latest
Safe search is on Untick both boxes
The post is over a week old Add since: and until:
until: cut your last day End one day later
Reposts crowd the list Add -filter:nativeretweets
The account is protected Follow it, get approved

Deleted or filtered by X Nothing to fix

Work down the table in order: the last row is out of your hands.

Step 1: Switch from Top to Latest

Top is X's own pick, "personalized based on your X activity and the people you follow," says its Help Center.

Latest shows "the rest of your search results in real-time order," newest first. Check it before anything else.

Safe search hides "potentially sensitive content" and "accounts you may have muted or blocked," on Top and Latest alike.

A muted friend's reply stays hidden until you switch it off:

  1. Search on x.comRun any search on the web.
  2. Open the more menuRight side of the results page.
  3. Choose Search settingsSafe search lives here.
  4. Untick both boxesHide sensitive content, and Remove blocked and muted accounts.
  5. Wait a few minutesX says the change can take several minutes.

X says the setting covers the web and both apps. On iPhone, change it on x.com.

Step 3: Add dates for posts over a week old

X's missing-posts page warns that "posts more than a week old may fail to display in timelines or search because of indexing capacity restrictions."

A date window helps. We ran the search from the top of this page through Weir, the search API we run, on 22 October 2026.

It reached back 19 months and found NASA's Blue Ghost "lunar sunrise" post. Two rules from our tests trip people up:

  • until: leaves out its own day. End the window one day after the last day you want.
  • Days run in UTC. X ignores times inside the operators, so a late post can land on the next day.

Our guide to searching tweets by date covers the app and shorter windows.

Step 4: Filter out reposts, and don't trust the profile

X search returns reposts by default, so they can push original posts down the list. Our NASA search put a repost first:

{
  "url": "https://x.com/NASA/status/1896642574796157069",
  "text": "RT @NASAhistory: Cheers to 110 years! ...",
  "likeCount": 0,
  "retweetedPost": { "likeCount": 879 }
}

A repost has 0 likes of its own; its real count sits on the original. Add -filter:nativeretweets to drop reposts.

Scrolling a profile won't show everything either. X's Help Center says the Posts tab shows only the 800 most recent posts.

For anything older, search with dates.

Step 5: Check who is allowed to see the post

Some posts are hidden from you on purpose:

  • Protected accounts. X says their posts "will only be searchable on X by you and your followers."
  • Logged-out visits. On 22 October 2026, X sent our signed-out visit to its search page straight to the log-in screen.
  • Deleted posts. X removes them "from X search results." Our guide on seeing deleted tweets covers archive copies.
  • Your own posts. X's search help asks you to confirm your email. If others still can't find you, run our shadowban test.

Does X search only cover 7 days, or hide posts with no likes?

No, not as a rule, in our tests on 22 October 2026.

A page that ranks for this problem says otherwise. roboin.io tested one account in X's Android app in August 2026 and concluded that X "excludes posts from search results once they reach seven days of age if they have zero likes."

Its April post reports another glitch: for some keywords, Latest showed only posts older than 7 days. We tested age and likes with Weir's search, which takes X's own operators:

19 monthsage of the NASA posts our dated search found
3 of 3posts with 0 likes, 37 days old, still in search
7credits for both searches

The zero-likes search was moon -min_faves:1 for one day in mid-September, without reposts or replies. What we found:

  • Zero likes didn't hide posts. All three were 37 days old; one came from DZRH News, a Philippine broadcaster.
  • Newest-first search had fresh posts. Our search for NASA's Moon posts that day returned posts under a day old.
  • "7 days" belongs to the API. The X API's recent search covers "the last 7 days," while the search box goes further back.

One test can't rule out an app bug, and X can change search at any time.

Get every post in a date window with an API

You don't need an API for one missing post.

An API helps when you need every post in a window, like all of an account's March. Weir's search takes the same filters as fields:

import os, requests

def every_post(username, since, until, max_pages=20):
    body = {"fromUsers": [username], "since": since, "until": until, "limit": 20}
    headers = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['WEIR_API_KEY']}"}
    posts = []
    for _ in range(max_pages):
        page = requests.post("https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search",
                             json=body, headers=headers, timeout=60).json()
        posts += page["data"]
        if not page["meta"]["nextCursor"]:
            break
        body["cursor"] = page["meta"]["nextCursor"]
    return posts

Call every_post("NASA", "2025-03-03T00:00:00Z", "2025-03-04T00:00:00Z"). The loop stops only on a null cursor, because a page can come back short with more behind it.

Ours came back short: we asked for 3 posts and got 2, plus a cursor.

Each page costs 1 credit plus 1 per post. Weir's first 5,000 credits each month are free.

When not to use Weir

  • You're hunting one post. Latest, safe search and a date window cost nothing.
  • It's protected or deleted. Weir reads public posts only, so it can't see them either.
  • You need X's own data. X's API full-archive search costs $0.005 per post read, as of October 2026.
  • Price per post is all that matters. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets, and it can also post.

Weir can't post. X's Terms of Service say you "cannot scrape the Services without X's express written permission," so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

Why is Twitter search not showing all tweets?

The Top tab shows a ranked, personalized pick, and safe search hides muted, blocked and sensitive posts. Tap Latest, turn safe search off, and add since: and until: for older posts. Protected and deleted posts never show.

Why is X search not working for me?

If search shows nothing, check that you're logged in: X sent our logged-out visit to its log-in screen. Then try Latest with fewer words. X also limits how often one network address can search, which can affect offices and events.

Does X search show tweets older than 7 days?

Yes. Our dated search on 22 October 2026 found NASA posts from March 2025. X warns that week-old posts "may fail to display," so add a date window. The 7-day limit belongs to the X API's recent search, not the search box.
