To find a tweet you saw, search X for the words you remember in quotes, then narrow it with from:, since:, filter:videos or min_faves:.

X (Twitter) shows you no history of the posts you scroll past, so search is the way back. You get the searches in order, a real recovery we ran, and habits that save the next hunt.

Paste this into X's search box, then swap in your own words and dates:

"moon base" filter:videos min_faves:1000 since:2026-10-19 until:2026-10-23
  1. Quote the words you remember"moon base"
  2. Add the account if you know itfrom:NASA
  3. Set a date windowsince:2026-10-19 until:2026-10-23
  4. Filter by media or likesfilter:videos, min_faves:1000
  5. Try Top, then LatestTop is personalized; Latest is newest first.

Can you see tweets you viewed on X?

No. We found no watch or view history anywhere in X's Help Center.

Here is what X does keep:

  • A view count. X's Help Center says any logged-in viewer adds to a post's view count, but X shows you no list of what you viewed.
  • Your data archive. X's archive page lists your posts, messages and "information about ads that you've seen," not ordinary posts.
  • Your own activity. A reply, repost or like you made still points to the post from your profile tabs.

One trail may sit outside X. If you opened the post's own page on x.com, its address is in your browser history, so search that for the account name or status.

If you only scrolled past it, search is your tool. Match what you remember to the operator that uses it:

You remember Add to your search
A phrase "the exact words"
The account from:handle
Who it replied to to:handle
Roughly when since:2026-10-19 until:2026-10-23
A photo or a video filter:images or filter:videos
That it was popular min_faves:100

Each step below adds one, and you can stack as many as you like.

Step 1: Search the exact words you remember

Put the words in double quotes. X's advanced search help calls this "posts containing exact phrases."

"moon base"

Pick the oddest words you recall. A rare phrase cuts the results far more than a common one.

Not sure of the wording? Drop the quotes, and X matches the words in any order.

Step 2: Add from: if you recall the account

from: keeps one account's posts. On a busy topic, it makes the biggest cut:

"moon base" from:NASA

You don't need the exact handle. Search the name first, open the profile, and copy the handle after the @.

Step 3: Narrow the dates with since: and until:

If you saw it this week, a short window clears out years of noise:

"moon base" since:2026-10-19 until:2026-10-23

In our tests, until: leaves out its own day, and both operators work on whole calendar days in UTC. So end the window one day after the day you think you saw it.

For hour-level windows and the mobile app, see how to search tweets by date.

Step 4: Add media and like filters

Remembered a video or a photo? Add filter:videos or filter:images. Our Twitter image search guide lists the other media filters.

Was it popular? min_faves: keeps posts with at least that many likes. It's the filter that saves you when you can't recall the account.

We tested both on 22 October 2026 through Weir, the search API we run, which takes the same operators. The target was a NASA video about building a Moon base:

3posts for words, dates and filter:videos, none of them NASA's
1post once we added min_faves:1000: NASA's video
2searches, 6 credits in total

The first search returned three posts from other accounts, with 0 to 29 likes. Adding the likes floor left only the post we wanted, trimmed here:

{
  "url": "https://x.com/NASA/status/2112560723603632217",
  "text": "There's a lot of ground to cover when you're building a Moon Base. ...",
  "createdAt": "2026-10-20T15:05:00.000Z",
  "likeCount": 3638,
  "viewCount": 538114,
  "media": [{ "type": "video" }]
}

Start the floor low, around 100, and raise it until a few posts remain. X applies its own floor loosely, so a post a little under it can still show up.

Step 5: Switch between Top and Latest

X's Help Center says Top results are "personalized based on your X activity and the people you follow." That makes Top a good first look for something that crossed your own feed.

Latest lists posts newest first, with no ranking. Use it when your post was recent or Top keeps showing the same few big accounts.

Our free X advanced search builder writes all of these operators from a form, and our search operators guide lists the rest.

Why can't I find a tweet I saw?

  • You muted or blocked the author. X's safe search hides those accounts. Turn it off in your search settings and try again.
  • The account is protected. Only approved followers see its posts in search, per X's Help Center.
  • Search skipped it. X says it "may not show every post in search results."
  • The post is gone. Deleted posts drop out of search; our guide on seeing deleted tweets covers archive copies.

How to find a tweet you saw but didn't like, next time

Save it the moment it matters. X gives you two private ways:

  • Bookmark it. X's Help Center says bookmarks "are private and are only viewable to you."
  • Like it. Since June 2024, likes are private to others, but X says you "will still be able to see posts you have liked."
  • Save a repeat search. The X app can save a search, though X says saved searches aren't on x.com.

A bookmark is the quiet choice, since the author gets no like from you.

When not to use Weir

  • You're hunting one post. X's search box and our free search builder cost nothing.
  • It sat in your own feed. Weir sees only public posts, not your timeline, likes or bookmarks.
  • The account is protected. Weir reads public data only, so it can't see those posts either.

Weir can't post, and X's terms still apply to how you use what you find. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

How do I find a tweet I saw earlier?

Search X for words you remember, in double quotes. Add from: if you know the account and since: and until: for the days you saw it. Add filter:videos or min_faves: to cut the rest, and check both Top and Latest.

How do I see tweets I viewed on X?

You can't. We found no viewing history in X's Help Center, and its data archive lists ads you've seen, not ordinary posts. If you opened the post on x.com, your browser history may still hold its link.

How do I find a specific tweet without the account name?

Search the exact words in quotes with a date window, then add min_faves: if it seemed popular. In our test, a likes floor of 1,000 turned three wrong posts into the one NASA video we wanted.

Can I find a tweet I saw but didn't like or bookmark?

Yes, if you remember any words, the day or the media type. Build the search step by step from this guide. If it came from a protected account or was deleted, search won't show it.
