How to See Verified Followers on Twitter (2026)
Blue, gold and grey checks mean different things on X. Here's how to see verified followers on Twitter, then count them by API, with October 2026 costs.

To see verified followers on Twitter, open an account's followers list and look for the checkmarks, then count them with an API.
This guide is for brands and creators sizing up an audience on X (Twitter). You get what each checkmark means in 2026, four ways to count, and a tested script. We run Weir, one of the APIs here, and we show where others cost less.
This prints how many of an account's newest followers are verified:
import os, requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/users/NASA/followers",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['WEIR_API_KEY']}"},
timeout=60,
)
page = r.json()["data"]
print(sum(a["verified"] for a in page), "of", len(page), "newest followers are verified")
- Open the followers listCheckmarks sit next to names.
- Read the checkmarkBlue, gold and grey mean different things.
- Pick a counting routeOne field, one endpoint, or every follower.
- Run the scriptCount verified accounts page by page.
Step 1: See verified followers on Twitter in the app
Open a profile on X and tap its Followers count. X's Help Center says the list shows "how many followers you have and who they are."
Verified accounts carry a checkmark beside their name, so you can spot them as you scroll. Other public accounts' lists open the same way.
Here is what we could and couldn't confirm on 22 October 2026:
- Confirmed: the followers list and what each checkmark means, from X's Help Center.
- Not confirmed: a Verified Followers tab, or who sees it. Circleboom says X's view sits behind Premium "for many accounts," but X's Help Center doesn't mention one.
- Not found: a count of verified followers. The X pages we checked only mention your total.
Dashboards fill the gap: Fedica's Sort Followers shows the verified total under its Select All button once you connect your account.
Bought followers won't help, since X's authenticity policy bans paying others to inflate your follows.
Step 2: Know what a verified checkmark means in 2026
A checkmark on X no longer means "notable." X's Help Center lists three colours:
- Blue: an active X Premium subscription that passed X's review. It doesn't mean the person showed an ID.
- Gold: an official organisation on Premium Business. Businesses also get a square avatar.
- Grey: a government or multilateral organisation, or an official.
In the EEA, X now calls blue-check users "Premium" rather than "verified." Its Help Center says a European Commission decision of 5 December 2025 led to the change, and X is appealing it.
Weir's verified field is a plain yes or no. On 22 October 2026 it came back true for @NASA, a government agency, and for @XDevelopers, X's developer account.
So organisations can count as verified in Weir, and the flag can't tell you the colour. X's own API can: its verified_type field reads "blue", "business" or "government".
Step 3: Pick how to count verified followers on Twitter
Choose by what you need: one number, the verified accounts, or the share of all followers. Each route, as of October 2026:
| Route | You get | 100,000 followers | 1 million followers |
|---|---|---|---|
| X API lookup | The count | $0.01 | $0.01 |
| TwitterAPI.io | Verified only | $0.30 | $3.00 |
| Sorsa | Every follower | $49 plan | $49 plan |
| Weir | Every follower | about $17 | about $127 |
| X API followers | Every follower | $1,000 | $10,000 |
TwitterAPI.io's figures assume 1 in 10 followers is verified.
- X API: its user lookup takes
user.fields=verified_followers_count, "the number of verified followers of this User." A user read costs $0.010. We have no X API key, so we haven't tested it. - TwitterAPI.io has a
verifiedFollowersendpoint at $0.03 per 1,000, with 20 accounts a page. It takes a numeric user id. - Sorsa has
/verified-followers, and its/followersreturns up to 200 accounts a call, each withverified. Plans start at $49 a month for 10,000 requests. - Weir returns every follower with
verified, about 70 a call, so you get the share as well as the count.
Our pick: X's field for the number alone, TwitterAPI.io for a big account's verified list, and Weir for the share of your newest followers.
Step 4: Count verified followers on Twitter with Python
Weir's endpoint is GET /v1/x/users/{user}/followers. Each follower has the same fields as a profile, verified included, as our guide to exporting Twitter followers to CSV shows.
The first part fetches one page, and waits when you go too fast:
import os, time, requests
HEADERS = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['WEIR_API_KEY']}"}
def get_page(user, params):
url = f"https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/users/{user}/followers"
while True:
r = requests.get(url, params=params, headers=HEADERS, timeout=60)
if r.status_code != 429: # 429 means too fast: wait, then retry
r.raise_for_status() # 402: out of credits; 404: missing or protected
return r.json()
time.sleep(int(r.headers.get("Retry-After", "10")))
The second part walks the list and counts:
def count_verified(user, max_pages=70): # 70 pages, about 4,900 followers
seen, params = {}, {} # id -> verified, so each account counts once
for _ in range(max_pages):
page = get_page(user, params)
seen.update((a["id"], a["verified"]) for a in page["data"])
if not page["meta"]["nextCursor"]:
return sum(seen.values()), len(seen), True # the whole list
params = {"cursor": page["meta"]["nextCursor"]}
return sum(seen.values()), len(seen), False # stopped early: newest followers only
v, total, whole = count_verified("your_brand")
note = "" if whole else " (newest followers only)"
print(f"{v:,} of {total:,} followers are verified ({v / max(total, 1):.1%}){note}")
Here's what it printed. The example is illustrative: we ran the script offline on made-up pages shaped like the API's response, so no real follower list was pulled.
490 of 4,410 followers are verified (11.1%)
The loop stops only on a null cursor, so a full walk ends with one empty call. Followers come newest first, so max_pages=10 gives you the verified share of the latest 700 or so.
How much does a Twitter verified followers count cost?
On Weir, each follower costs 1 credit and each call 1 more. The first call adds 2 credits to look up the account.
Your 5,000 free credits a month cover an account of up to about 4,900 followers. X sets the page size, so plan on 4,500.
The dollar figures use the $20 pack's rate for 100,000 and the $200 pack's for 1 million, from our pricing page. Bought credits never expire.
For big accounts, TwitterAPI.io and Sorsa cost far less. Our comparisons of Weir vs TwitterAPI.io and Weir vs Sorsa cover the rest.
If the count looks wrong
- It ends with "(newest followers only)". The run hit
max_pages, so price the job and raise it. - You get a
404. The account is protected or gone. - A
402stops the run. You're out of credits until a pack or next month's grant. - A dashboard shows another number. Lists change daily, and Weir's flag includes organisations.
When not to use Weir
- You only need the number. X's
verified_followers_countcosts $0.010 an account, if it works as documented. - You need a big account's verified list. TwitterAPI.io charges $0.03 per 1,000 verified followers.
- You count large accounts every month. Sorsa's $49 Starter plan covers about 2 million followers through
/followers. - You need each check's colour. Weir's flag is yes or no, while X's
verified_typesplits them.
A follower list is a list of people, so keep counts and drop the rest. X's Terms of Service restrict scraping, so check what applies to you. This isn't legal advice.
FAQ
How do I check how many verified followers I have on Twitter?
X's Help Center mentions only your total, so count the verified ones another way. Use X's API field, a verified-followers endpoint like TwitterAPI.io's, or the Step 4 script on your own username. A small account fits inside Weir's free credits.
Can I see someone else's verified followers on X?
Yes, for public accounts. Their followers list opens like yours, and every API here works on any public account. Weir answers 404 for a protected account, so pick public ones.
What does a verified checkmark mean on X now?
Blue means an X Premium subscriber that passed X's review. Gold marks an organisation on Premium Business, and grey a government account or official. Since April 2023, being notable no longer earns a check.
Is there a free Twitter verified followers checker?
Weir's 5,000 free credits a month walk an account of about 4,500 followers, with no card. Sorsa's 100 free requests, given once, cover about 20,000 followers. X's own API needs you to buy credits first.
