Raycast MCP Server Setup: Install, Sign In and @-Mention

Install a remote Raycast MCP server with the Install MCP Server form: HTTP, one-click OAuth, @-mentions in AI Chat, auto-approved reads and real costs.

Raycast MCP setup for a remote server is one Install MCP Server form: choose HTTP, paste the URL and sign in.

This guide adds Weir, so Raycast AI can search X (Twitter) and read posts, threads and profiles. Weir only reads, so it never posts as you. We run Weir.

Name:        Weir
Transport:   HTTP
URL:         https://api.weirapp.io/mcp
OAuth Type:  Dynamic

Raycast MCP server setup: add Weir in four steps

You need Raycast Pro and a free Weir account.

We read Raycast's manual and its changelog up to Raycast 2.9 for Mac, released 22 October 2026.

  1. Open the formSearch Raycast for Install MCP Server, or use Install New Server in Manage MCP Servers.
  2. Fill it inName Weir, Transport HTTP, the URL above and OAuth Type Dynamic. Leave headers empty.
  3. Sign inPress Cmd+Enter (Ctrl+Enter on Windows) to install, choose Sign In and approve Weir in your browser.
  4. Ask the free questionIn AI Chat, type "@weir what's my usage?" It calls get_usage, which costs nothing.

On iOS, tap your account avatar, then AI, then MCP Servers, and enter the same name and URL. iOS takes only HTTP servers, and Weir is one.

As of October 2026, Raycast's pricing page lists Pro at $10 a month, with a free trial for eligible new accounts.

Which fields does the Raycast MCP form take?

Raycast's manual sets servers up through this form and documents no config file. These are its fields for an HTTP server:

Field Weir's value What it does
Transport HTTP Remote; Streamable HTTP included
URL https://api.weirapp.io/mcp The server's endpoint
HTTP Headers Authorization with a key Key route only
OAuth Type Dynamic Raycast registers itself
Custom Instructions a spending rule Steers how Raycast AI uses Weir

Some guides still say Raycast needs a bridge like mcp-remote for remote servers. That was Raycast 1, whose manual lists only local stdio servers.

Rather use a key? It suits a machine where nobody can click through a browser. Create one under API keys in your Weir dashboard, then add one header:

Authorization: Bearer weir_live_your_key

With a valid key, Weir never asks Raycast to sign in, and Weir's MCP docs cover both routes.

Building an extension? Raycast's API installs the same server with Action.InstallMCPServer. In @raycast/api 2.9.0 the remote transport is "sse", which Raycast's own registry code says covers Streamable HTTP:

{
  "name": "Weir",
  "transport": "sse",
  "url": "https://api.weirapp.io/mcp"
}

Does Raycast support OAuth for MCP servers?

Yes. Raycast's manual says Dynamic OAuth uses dynamic client registration with PKCE: you choose Sign In, and Raycast registers itself.

  • There's no client ID to paste. Weir supports dynamic registration, so the Static fields stay unused.
  • The callback is allowed. Raycast names three: an HTTPS page, the Raycast app, and since 2.0 a loopback address. Weir accepts all three.
  • Tokens stay in Raycast, encrypted per server. Logout Server clears them and keeps the server.
  • A stuck sign-in has a reset. Raycast 2.3 added Reset Sign In, so you can retry without reinstalling.

The link shows under API keys in your Weir dashboard, marked "(MCP)". Revoke it there to cut Raycast off.

How to @-mention an MCP server in Raycast AI

Type @ in AI Chat or Quick AI and pick Weir, the same way you mention an AI Extension. On Mac and Windows, Raycast also adds an Ask Weir command to Root Search.

The manual says a server's tools also reach AI Commands.

Turn Custom Instructions into a spending rule. Raycast AI reads them whenever it considers Weir's tools:

Use limit 5 or less on Weir's data tools unless I ask for more.
Never fetch a second page with cursor unless I ask.

Can Raycast AI read X (Twitter)? A worked task

Yes. Say you want Raycast's latest news. Ask in AI Chat:

@weir what's the latest @raycast post on X? Skip replies and reposts.

Raycast AI should pick search_x. We ran that call through Weir's MCP server on 24 October 2026:

→ search_x {"fromUsers": ["raycast"], "query": "-filter:nativeretweets",
            "onlyOriginal": true, "since": "2026-10-01T00:00:00Z", "limit": 1}
← 1 post · 2 credits (1 + 1 × 1) · nextCursor set
  Oct 23 31 likes 6,168 views "One week to go until The New Standard in Paris."

The post invites people to a panel night in Paris on 29 October.

X search returns reposts by default, so -filter:nativeretweets drops them, and onlyOriginal drops replies.

2credits for our 1-post search
11credits for a 10-post search
0credits for get_usage
5,000free Weir credits every month

Weir bills 1 credit per call plus 1 per X post, and failed calls are free. Packs start at $5 for 25,000 credits and never expire, as of October 2026. See every rate on our pricing page.

What we haven't tested

We can't run Raycast here. This guide comes from Raycast's manual, changelog and API types, plus a real call through Weir's MCP server.

  • Raycast's sign-in against Weir. Weir supports the registration Raycast's manual describes, but we haven't clicked through it.
  • Approval rules. Raycast's Auto-review Rules can say "Ask first", but we don't know if one can match a Weir tool.
  • The extension object. We checked it against Raycast's type definitions, not in a running extension.

If it doesn't work

  • There's no HTTP option. Update Raycast. The manual for Raycast 1 lists only local stdio servers.
  • Weir shows Error. Open Manage MCP Servers and read the details pane. Check the URL is exactly https://api.weirapp.io/mcp.
  • Sign-in stalls. Use Reset Sign In, or Logout Server, then sign in again.
  • A tool returns 402. Your Weir credits ran out, and retrying won't help.

When not to use Weir

  • Raycast AI has to post, reply or DM. Weir is read-only.
  • You want private data. Weir reads public posts, not your bookmarks, DMs or home timeline.
  • Price per post matters most. TwitterAPI.io lists $0.15 per 1,000 tweets as of October 2026, less than our $5 pack.
  • You need a guarantee. Weir isn't licensed by X or affiliated with it, so access can change.

FAQ

Is Raycast an MCP client?

Yes. Raycast AI connects to MCP servers and uses their tools in AI Chat, Quick AI and AI Commands. Servers can be local commands on Mac and Windows, or remote HTTP endpoints like Weir.

Is there a Raycast MCP registry?

Yes. Raycast's Model Context Protocol Registry extension has a Search Servers command for official and community servers, plus Smithery. Weir isn't listed there, so add it with Install MCP Server.

Does Raycast MCP work on Windows and iOS?

Yes. The manual lists MCP on Mac, Windows and iOS. iOS takes only remote HTTP servers, so a server like Weir works on all three. The iOS app also suggests popular servers, such as GitHub and Linear.

Can Raycast post to X through Weir?

No. Weir only reads public X data, so nothing can post, like or follow through it. Its tools search posts, read threads and replies, and look up profiles, lists and Spaces.
