Twitter Bio Search: Find X Accounts by Bio Keywords (2026)

A Twitter bio search that works in 2026: X's People tab for quick finds, plus a Python script that filters bios into a CSV, tested live with real results.

Cover image: From two words to a CSV

To run a Twitter bio search, type one or two words into the search box, then open the People tab.

This guide is for recruiters, marketers and researchers who need X (Twitter) accounts, not posts. You get the free route, the query trap that returns nothing, and a Python script that filters bios into a CSV. We run Weir, the API in Step 3.

Search accounts by bio with one call:

curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/users/search \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{"query":"space agency","limit":5}'

Here is the plan:

  1. Pick one or two wordsA job title, a beat or a product type.
  2. Search People on XType the words, then open the People tab.
  3. Call a user search APIPOST /v1/x/users/search returns bios as data.
  4. Page through resultsSend meta.nextCursor back, up to a page limit.
  5. Filter and saveKeep accounts whose name or bio fits, then write a CSV.

Step 1: Search Twitter bios on X's People tab

Type your words into X's search box and press Enter. Then open People, one of the result tabs X's Help Center lists next to Top and Latest. In the app, tap Explore first.

Advanced search won't help here. X's Help Center lists its fields as words, people, places and dates, and none of them reads bios. Once you have usernames, our X advanced search builder writes searches for their posts.

Older guides suggest two other routes:

  • Google's site: operator finds profiles that Google has indexed, but you copy each result by hand.
  • Followerwonk, the bio search tool most of them name, now lives inside Fedica's dashboard, per followerwonk.com. We couldn't confirm which Fedica plan includes it.

Step 2: Keep the search to one or two words

X's people search gets strict fast. On 22 October 2026, we ran searches through Weir's API, which uses X's own people search:

3accounts for "fintech recruiter"
0accounts for "recruiter fintech london"
5 of 5"space agency" results with both words in the name

So search the core words, and do the rest yourself. For London recruiters, search "fintech recruiter", then keep accounts whose bio or location says London. X's location operators won't do it for you, as our location search tests show.

Names come first, and matching is loose. In each search, the top results had the words, or something close, in their name or handle. One "fintech recruiter" result had no "fintech" anywhere in its name, handle or bio.

Pick your words by goal:

Goal Search Then keep
Hire in a niche fintech recruiter location has your city
Find experts climate scientist bio names a university
Reach reporters tech reporter bio names an outlet
Build a lead list vector database followers over 1,000

That last filter matters. Our "vector database" search put three accounts named after the phrase on top, and none had more than 18 followers.

The location is whatever the owner typed. X's own country label is something else; see what "account based in" means on X.

Step 3: Twitter account search by bio, through an API

Weir's POST /v1/x/users/search runs X's people search and returns each account as data. It costs 1 credit per call plus 1 per account. A page holds up to 20 accounts.

The curl at the top returned five space agencies on 22 October 2026, for 6 credits. The first, trimmed:

{
  "id": "21436960",
  "username": "esa",
  "name": "European Space Agency",
  "description": "Elevating the future of Europe through space. ...",
  "location": "Europe",
  "followersCount": 1899991,
  "createdAt": "2009-02-20T21:38:25.000Z"
}

ESA's bio never says "agency", but its name does. Only one of the five agencies had "agency" in its bio, so your filter should read the name and the bio together.

Store each account's id as well as its username, because usernames change. Our Twitter user ID lookup guide explains why.

X's own API has a user search too. X's reference lists GET /2/users/search, with a query of up to 50 letters, numbers, spaces, underscores or apostrophes. It lists only user sign-in tokens for it, not an app-only key.

Step 4: Page through the results in Python

This generator sends the search, then sends meta.nextCursor back until it runs out or hits your page limit:

import csv, os, requests

API = "https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/users/search"
HEADERS = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['WEIR_API_KEY']}"}

def find_accounts(query, pages=3, limit=20):
    body = {"query": query, "limit": limit}
    for _ in range(pages):
        r = requests.post(API, json=body, headers=HEADERS, timeout=60)
        r.raise_for_status() # 402: out of credits; 429: wait, then retry
        yield from r.json()["data"]
        body["cursor"] = r.json()["meta"].get("nextCursor")
        if not body["cursor"]:
            return

Three full pages hold up to 60 accounts. That costs at most 63 credits.

Step 5: Filter bios and save a CSV

Add this below the generator, and save both as bio_search.py. fits() keeps an account when its name, bio and location, read together, hold every word you list:

def fits(user, words):
    text = " ".join(user[k] or "" for k in ("name", "description", "location"))
    return all(word in text.lower() for word in words)

accounts = [u for u in find_accounts("space agency") if fits(u, ["space", "agency"])]
accounts.sort(key=lambda user: user["followersCount"], reverse=True)

FIELDS = ["id", "username", "name", "followersCount", "location", "description"]
with open("accounts.csv", "w", newline="", encoding="utf-8") as file:
    writer = csv.DictWriter(file, fieldnames=FIELDS, extrasaction="ignore")
    writer.writeheader()
    writer.writerows(accounts)
for user in accounts:
    print(user["username"], user["followersCount"])

Write your words in lowercase. We sent the search at limit: 5 and ran the five results through fits(). It printed:

esa 1899991
csa_asc 360987
spacegovuk 226032
AusSpaceAgency 39495
EU4Space 18742

On our "fintech recruiter" results, fits(user, ["fintech"]) kept two of three. It dropped the staffing agency with no "fintech" anywhere.

What does a Twitter bio search cost?

As of October 2026, here is what 1,000 accounts cost:

Searching 1,000 accounts by bio
Official X API$10
Weir, $5 packabout $0.21

X's pricing page lists $0.010 per user read. Weir charges 1 credit per call plus 1 per account. At 20 accounts a page, 1,000 accounts cost 1,050 credits.

Weir's 5,000 free credits each month cover about 4,700 accounts.

TwitterAPI.io can cost less. It also has a user search endpoint. Its pricing page lists profiles at 1 to 18 credits each, where a dollar buys 100,000 credits. That's $0.01 to $0.18 per 1,000.

If your bio search finds nothing

  • The query is too long. Cut it to one or two words; three gave us zero.
  • You're on Top or Latest. Those tabs list posts, so open People.
  • The query has symbols. X's user search API allows only letters, numbers, spaces, underscores and apostrophes.
  • A city is in the query. Move it to your filter instead.

When not to use Weir

  • A few accounts, found by hand. X's People tab is free.
  • You need X's own terms. X's API bills $0.010 per user read, as of October 2026.
  • Lowest price per profile. TwitterAPI.io lists profiles from $0.01 per 1,000, and it can post and push new posts to you.
  • Anything about a private person. Use bio search for brands and public roles, never to track people.

Weir reads public data only and can't post. X's Terms of Service bar scraping without X's written permission, and privacy laws may cover a list of people you build. This isn't legal advice.

FAQ

Can you search Twitter bios?

Yes. Type one or two words into X's search box and open the People tab. X's developer docs say its user search matches names, usernames and bio text. Advanced search has no bio field, so it can't do this job.

Is there a free Twitter bio searcher?

X's People tab is free and needs nothing else. Followerwonk, the classic bio searcher, now lives inside Fedica's dashboard. By API, Weir's 5,000 free credits a month cover about 4,700 accounts.

How do I search Twitter users by bio and location?

Search the bio words alone, then filter the location yourself. Our search for "recruiter fintech london" returned nothing, while "fintech recruiter" found 3 accounts. In Step 5, add the city to the words you pass to fits().

How do I export Twitter bio search results?

X's help pages describe no export for search results. Use a user search API and write each account as a CSV row, as in Step 5. To export an account's followers instead, see export Twitter followers to CSV.
