Reddit RSS Feeds End on November 13, 2026: What Breaks and the Alternatives
Reddit RSS is ending on November 13, 2026. What breaks, Reddit's own replacement for mods, and honest Reddit RSS alternatives for keyword alerts after RSS.

Reddit RSS is ending: Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Moderators are pointed to a Devvit app called Discord Relay, but for everyone else Reddit's announcement says "there is no replacement." Any feed reader, Zapier or n8n RSS trigger, or keyword alert built on a reddit.com/....rss URL will stop getting new items. This post covers what Reddit actually announced, what breaks, and the realistic alternatives, including a step-by-step replacement for a subreddit feed, as of October 2026.
What Reddit announced
On September 30, 2026, Reddit posted "Continuing our infrastructure updates" in r/modnews:
Because RSS is now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse, we'll stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026 while preserving moderation workflows that depend on it through supported alternatives.
And, for anyone who isn't a moderator:
If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement.
A few details from the same thread and Reddit's help center:
- The date is November 13, 2026. Reddit's setup guide for mod alerts repeats it: "Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026."
- The redditstatus.com feed stays. A Reddit admin confirmed in the comments: "The RSS feed for redditstatus.com will continue to work, we're not retiring that."
The announcement doesn't list which feed URLs are affected, so plan as if every Reddit feed you use, whether for a subreddit, a search, a user or comments, will stop.
What breaks on November 13
- Feed readers. Inoreader says existing Reddit feeds "will continue to receive updates for as long as Reddit provides them," that "once Reddit stops serving its RSS feeds, we'll no longer be able to retrieve new posts through them," and that it can't confirm an alternative yet. Other readers face the same limit, because the change is on Reddit's side.
- Automation triggers. Zapier's RSS trigger, n8n's RSS Feed Trigger and IFTTT applets that poll a Reddit feed will simply stop firing. Expect silence, not an error, so check them now rather than waiting to notice.
- Homemade keyword alerts. A lot of "tell me when someone mentions X on Reddit" setups are a search feed piped into a reader, Slack or email. They go quiet too.
- Mod team alerts. Mod queue and modmail feeds are the one case Reddit replaces (see below).
- Sites that embed Reddit feeds, such as WordPress aggregator plugins or dashboards.
Reddit RSS alternatives
| Option | Who it's for | Cost (as of October 2026) | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Follow on Reddit | Readers | Free | Only in Reddit's own apps, no export |
| Discord Relay (Devvit) | Moderators of that community | Free | Mod alerts only, Discord or Slack |
| Other Devvit apps | Moderators, developers | Free to build | Only work inside communities that install them |
| F5Bot | Keyword email alerts | Free; $9.99 and $49.99/month plans | Depends on reading Reddit from outside |
| Syften | Teams, lead generation | From $29.95/month; PRO $119.95/month | Same dependency |
| An API with monitors (e.g. Weir) | Developers, custom pipelines | Pay per result, free monthly credits | Same dependency |
Reddit's own features
If you only read Reddit in a feed reader, the simplest option is to read it on Reddit. Join the communities, and follow people: "Following someone adds the posts they make to their profile to your home feed." Notification types are set in your notification settings. None of this leaves Reddit, so it won't feed another tool.
Discord Relay, for moderators
For mod teams, Reddit recommends Discord Relay, a Devvit app. Reddit's setup guide says it takes about 15 to 20 minutes and "No coding experience is needed." It posts mod queue, reported content, modmail and mod action alerts to Discord or Slack. The app "checks the mod queue once a minute," and supports up to six destinations. You need full moderator permissions in the community, so it isn't an option for following a community you don't moderate.
Other Devvit apps
You can build a Devvit app that reacts to new posts or comments with triggers. It runs only in communities that install it, which in practice means communities you moderate, and outbound requests go only to allow-listed domains. Good for your own community, not for watching others.
Email alert services
F5Bot has run since 2017 and sends email when keywords appear in new Reddit posts or comments, as well as on Hacker News and Lobsters. As of October 2026 its homepage lists a free plan with email alerts, Silver at $9.99 a month with 20 keywords, and Gold at $49.99 a month with 200 keywords, RSS and JSON feeds, AI filtering, and Slack and Discord delivery. It was working when we checked, and it hasn't published anything about Reddit's changes that we could find.
Paid monitoring tools
Syften monitors Reddit and other communities for keywords. Its own comparison lists an Entry plan at $29.95 a month, and its Reddit page lists PRO at $119.95 a month with webhooks, Slack and an MCP server. Tools like this are the easiest swap if you want filters and a team inbox without writing code.
Build your own alerts with an API
If you want new items as JSON in your own system, use a data API with scheduled monitors or polling. Weir, our product, is one option. Apify's scheduled Reddit actors and the services in our Reddit API alternatives comparison are others.
The honest caveat for every third-party option
F5Bot, Syften, Weir and every other outside service read public Reddit data without, as far as public information shows, a licence from Reddit. Any of these could stop working, or be blocked, if Reddit changes how its data can be reached, and that includes Weir. Check each service's terms, and decide whether your use fits Reddit's terms, before you depend on it. This isn't legal advice.
Step by step: replace a subreddit RSS feed with a Weir monitor and webhook
Say you follow https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/new/.rss and want every new post sent to your own endpoint. A Weir monitor with target.kind set to subreddit does the same job. Field names below are from Weir's OpenAPI contract.
You need an API key from the dashboard in WEIR_API_KEY, and a public HTTPS URL that accepts a POST.
1. Create the webhook
curl --request POST \
--url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/webhooks \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
--header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{
"name": "r/selfhosted feed",
"url": "https://hooks.example.com/reddit",
"events": ["monitor.result.created"]
}'
The response's data includes the webhook id and a secret. The secret is shown once, so store it now.
2. Create the monitor
curl --request POST \
--url https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
--header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
--data '{
"name": "r/selfhosted new posts",
"target": { "kind": "subreddit", "subreddit": "selfhosted" },
"schedule": "daily",
"webhookId": "PASTE-THE-WEBHOOK-ID"
}'
How this maps to the feeds you had:
| Old RSS feed | Monitor target |
|---|---|
| A subreddit's new posts | {"kind": "subreddit", "subreddit": "selfhosted"} |
Several subreddits (a+b feed) |
{"kind": "subreddit", "subreddit": "selfhosted+homelab"} (up to 10) |
| A keyword search in a subreddit | {"kind": "subreddit", "subreddit": "selfhosted", "query": "backup"} |
| A subreddit's comments | {"kind": "subreddit_comments", "subreddit": "selfhosted"}, optional query |
| A user's posts or comments | {"kind": "reddit_user", "username": "...", "include": "both"} |
| A keyword across all of Reddit | {"kind": "search", "query": "\"your brand\"", "sources": ["reddit"]} |
Leave query off a subreddit target to get every new post. With a query, the monitor uses Reddit's search, which covers post titles and bodies but not comments. For keywords in comments, use subreddit_comments with a query.
schedule is manual, hourly, daily (the default) or weekly. Hourly is for paid tiers. The free tier allows one monitor and one webhook, and GET /v1/limits shows your numbers.
3. Test it
curl --request POST \
--url "https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors/$MONITOR_ID/run" \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY"
curl --url "https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors/$MONITOR_ID/results?limit=10" \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY"
The run call returns 202 and runs in the background. Each stored result has source, itemType, url, title, body, authorHandle, communityName and firstSeenAt, which covers what you used from an RSS item. POST /v1/webhooks/{id}/test sends a signed test delivery to your endpoint.
4. Receive deliveries
Each delivery is a signed POST of type monitor.result.created, with up to 25 new items in data.results, each in Reddit's own field names (title, selftext, subreddit, author, url). Verify the weir-signature header against the raw body before trusting it. The brand mention monitor tutorial has complete Python and Node receivers, and the docs explain retries. If a run finds more than 25 items, read the rest with GET /v1/monitors/{id}/results.
What it costs, and how it differs from RSS
Creating monitors, triggering runs and reading results are free. A run costs a 1-credit minimum plus 3 credits per new Reddit post or comment it stores, and items it has already reported cost nothing. A subreddit with about 30 new posts a day on a daily schedule costs 1 + 30 x 3 = 91 credits a day, about 2,730 a month, inside the 5,000 free monthly credits. Packs start at $5 for 25,000 credits (pricing).
Two differences from RSS: it isn't real time (daily on the free tier, hourly at best on paid tiers), and deduplication is by a hash of the content rather than the post id, so a repost of the same text isn't reported twice. Feed readers usually deduplicate by item id instead.
A no-code path
If you'd rather not run a server:
- In the Weir dashboard, create a webhook under Webhooks, then create a monitor under Monitors: pick "A subreddit", enter the community, and choose the webhook.
- For the webhook URL, use an automation tool that can receive one, such as Zapier's Catch Hook trigger or an n8n Webhook node, and pass each item's
titleandurlto Slack, email or a spreadsheet. - Use Run now or
POST /v1/monitors/{id}/runto send a first delivery while you build the zap.
One caution: a catch-hook trigger doesn't check Weir's signature, so anyone who learns the URL could post fake items to it. Keep the URL private, or add a code step that verifies the signature. If you only want to read new posts now and then, you can skip webhooks entirely and ask Claude or ChatGPT to read your monitor's results over Weir's MCP server.
Doing it with Weir
Weir gives you one monitor and one webhook on the free tier, with 5,000 credits a month and no card. That's enough to replace a feed or two and see whether it fits. Sign up here, then follow Monitors and webhooks. Read the caveat above first: Weir isn't licensed by Reddit, and we can't promise how Reddit's 2027 changes will affect it.
