To give Claude Code a Twitter (X) skill, add Weir's plugin marketplace and install the plugin. It brings Weir's remote MCP server and a skill that tells Claude when to reach for X and Reddit data.

This guide covers the Claude Code plugin, the same skill for Codex, Cursor and other agents, and the Gemini CLI extension. We run Weir, so weigh our numbers knowing that.

In Claude Code, it's two commands:

claude plugin marketplace add tarun-khatri/weir-mcp
claude plugin install weir@weir

Install the Claude Code Twitter skill as a plugin

The plugin lives in a public GitHub repository, tarun-khatri/weir-mcp, which is also its own marketplace. Claude Code's marketplace guide describes the same two steps.

  1. Add the marketplaceRun claude plugin marketplace add tarun-khatri/weir-mcp, or /plugin marketplace add inside a session.
  2. Install the pluginRun claude plugin install weir@weir. The first weir is the plugin, the second the marketplace.
  3. Sign inStart a session, run /mcp, pick weir and approve Weir in the browser. There is no key to paste.
  4. Check itAsk "What's my Weir usage?" Claude calls get_usage, which is free.

We installed it on 26 October 2026 in a clean Claude Code profile. Claude Code listed one skill, weir, and one MCP server, weir. Its own estimate was about 160 tokens added to every session, and about 7,100 when the skill runs.

What the plugin adds: the server https://api.weirapp.io/mcp and the Weir skill. The skill is the same guide we publish at weirapp.io/SKILL.md. It tells Claude to query X and Reddit separately, to page until the cursor is null, and what each call costs.

Use the same skill in Codex, Cursor and other agents

The open-source skills command installs a skill from a GitHub repository into the coding agents it finds on your machine, and lets you choose which:

npx skills add tarun-khatri/weir-mcp

It finds skills/weir/SKILL.md in the repository. Add -g to install it for your user instead of the current project.

A skill is instructions, not a connection. It tells the agent how to use Weir, but the agent still needs the MCP server. Add it once per client with our MCP setup for coding agents, or see Codex and Cursor.

Add it to Gemini CLI

The same repository is a Gemini CLI extension. One command adds the MCP server and a short GEMINI.md with the rules above:

gemini extensions install https://github.com/tarun-khatri/weir-mcp

Gemini CLI signs you in through the browser the first time a Weir tool runs.

Skill, plugin or plain MCP: which should you use?

You use Install What you get
Claude Code The plugin Server and skill, updated together
Codex, Cursor, Copilot and others npx skills add, plus the server The skill, and the server you add
Gemini CLI The extension Server and GEMINI.md
Claude on the web, ChatGPT A custom connector The server only: see Claude or ChatGPT

What it costs

Weir bills per result from prepaid credits. An X post costs 1 credit, an X profile 2 and a Reddit post or comment 3, plus 1 credit for each successful call. Failed calls cost nothing. You get 5,000 credits free every month, with no card. See pricing for the packs.

When not to use it

Weir is read-only. If your agent has to post, reply or like on X, use a server built on X's own API, such as X's hosted MCP, which needs your own developer app. Weir is also not licensed by X or Reddit, so its access can change. For your own posts, X's archive download costs nothing.

FAQ

Is the Claude Code Twitter skill free?

Yes. The plugin, the skill and the extension are free and MIT licensed. Calls draw on Weir credits, and 5,000 are free every month.

Does it need an X or Twitter API key?

No. Weir reads public X and Reddit data with its own access. You sign in to Weir once in the browser, and no X account is involved.

Does the skill work without the MCP server?

It can read the docs, but it can't fetch data. With no server, an agent can call the REST API with a Weir key instead, which the skill also explains.

Can I use it in CI or headless runs?

Yes. Send a Weir API key as a bearer token instead of signing in. Our MCP docs show the header for each client.
