TweetAPI costs less per tweet at almost any paid volume; Weir fits free monthly use, Reddit and alerts by webhook.
TweetAPI is a REST API and hosted MCP server for X (Twitter) data, billed per call in API units. It is a different company from TwitterAPI.io. We run Weir, so every TweetAPI fact here comes from TweetAPI's own pages, checked on 25 October 2026.
Moving a TweetAPI search to Weir is one call:
curl https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/search \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"fromUsers": ["NASA"], "query": "-filter:nativeretweets", "onlyOriginal": true, "limit": 5}'
TweetAPI or Weir: which fits you?
It depends on how much you read, and whether X is your only source.
TweetAPI bills one unit per call, however many tweets come back. Weir bills 1 credit per post plus 1 per call, from prepaid packs.
| TweetAPI | Weir | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | 1 unit per call | 1 credit per post, +1 a call |
| Prices | $5 prepaid, or $17 to $757/mo | Packs of $5 to $1,000 |
| Free tier | 100 units, once | 5,000 credits every month |
| 10,000 tweets | $0.25 of a $5 pack | $1.10 of a $5 pack |
| 1 million tweets | $17 a month (Pro) | $104.50 to $130.63 |
| Posting, DMs | Yes, with your X account | No, read-only |
| Monitors | Separate product, TweetNotify | Built in, signed webhooks |
| No | Yes |
Both host a remote MCP server with OAuth sign-in. TweetAPI's MCP tools only read, though its REST API can write.
TweetAPI pricing: API units, not tweets
TweetAPI's pricing page says allowances are "API units, not returned posts." It adds that most calls use one unit, and "some endpoints cost more."

The fine print, from its pricing page and billing rules:
- Prepaid units expire 365 days after payment. Packs run from $5 to $50, all at $0.50 per 1,000.
- Plans renew monthly, at 60 requests a minute on Pro, up to 500 on Tera.
- Empty results and extra pages bill. Errors such as 400, 429 and 5xx don't.
- Running out doesn't lock you out until next month; a top-up works at once.
What 1,000 tweets cost on each
TweetAPI's search example returns 20 tweets per call, the page size X serves Weir too. So 1,000 tweets from search take 50 calls on both.
- TweetAPI: 50 units: $0.025 pay as you go, or $0.0085 on Pro.
- Weir: 50 calls plus 1,000 posts, or 1,050 credits: $0.105 to $0.21, by pack.
Batch lookups widen the gap. One TweetAPI unit fetches up to 100 profiles or 200 tweets by id. On Weir, 100 profiles cost 201 credits.
What 10,000 and 1 million tweets a month cost
At 10,000 tweets a month:
- TweetAPI: 500 units. One $5 pack holds 10,000, so it lasts the year before it expires.
- Weir: 10,500 credits, less 5,000 free: $1.10 at the $5 pack's rate, or $13.20 a year.
At 1 million tweets a month:
- TweetAPI: 50,000 units, inside the Pro plan's 100,000 for $17.
- Weir: 1,045,000 paid credits: $104.50 at the $1,000 pack's rate.
When is Weir cheaper than TweetAPI?
Only when your use is small, or your calls come back nearly empty.
- Up to about 4,760 posts a month, Weir costs nothing. TweetAPI's 100 free units come once.
- A call that finds 0 or 1 post costs Weir 1 or 2 credits, $0.0004 at most. A TweetAPI pay-as-you-go unit is $0.0005.
- Scheduled checks. A Weir monitor run that finds nothing new costs 1 credit, and you run no scheduler.
On TweetAPI's monthly plans, units cost $0.00008 to $0.00017, so the edge on empty calls mostly disappears.
TweetAPI MCP server and endpoints
TweetAPI's MCP server is for quick lookups from an agent chat:
- Hosted MCP at
https://mcp.tweetapi.com/mcp, with OAuth sign-in through the TweetAPI dashboard. - Read-only. It "does not expose posting, engagement, account-secret, or DM operations."
- Docs inside the agent. It also searches TweetAPI's current docs.
- Normal quota. Each live MCP call uses the units of the API key you picked.
- Documented clients are Codex, Claude Code and Cursor.
- 83 REST operations, X only, from search and lists to communities, Spaces and DMs.
Weir's MCP server at https://api.weirapp.io/mcp has setup guides for more than 30 clients, from Claude and ChatGPT to n8n. Our MCP server guide walks through it.
When to choose TweetAPI
Choose TweetAPI if X is your only source and you read a lot, or if you need to write.
Good
- 1 unit per call: $0.0085 per 1,000 search tweets on Pro
- 100 profiles or 200 tweets per unit, by id
- Prepaid packs from $5, no subscription needed
- Posting, likes, follows and DMs on the REST API
- 83 operations, including X Communities and Spaces
- Up to 500 requests a minute on Tera
Watch out
- 100 free units, once
- Prepaid units expire after 365 days
- X only, and monitoring is a separate product
When to choose Weir
Weir is the better fit for small agent use, X plus Reddit, and scheduled alerts.
Good
- 5,000 free credits every month, about 4,760 posts
- Bought credits never expire
- Reddit posts, comments and users on the same key
- Monitors that send only new posts, by signed webhook
- MCP setup guides for more than 30 clients
- 120 requests a minute after one $5 pack
Watch out
- At least 4 times dearer per search tweet
- Read-only: no posting, liking or DMs
- A search counts as 2 requests toward the rate limit
Weir reads public data only and is not affiliated with X or Reddit.
Moving a TweetAPI search to Weir
On TweetAPI, search is a GET with the key in an X-API-Key header:
curl "https://api.tweetapi.com/tw-v2/search?query=from%3ANASA&type=Latest" \
-H "X-API-Key: $TWEETAPI_API_KEY"
Weir's is the call at the top. We ran it through Weir's MCP server on 25 October 2026 and got 5 posts for 6 credits. The newest, trimmed:
{
"id": "2113776971603689874",
"text": "We are not slowing down. 🚀\n\nOur Artemis III mission will send four astronauts to low Earth orbit next year ...",
"createdAt": "2026-10-23T23:37:56.000Z",
"author": { "username": "NASA", "followersCount": 92312087 },
"likeCount": 7098,
"viewCount": 1243143
}
On TweetAPI, one search call is 1 unit, whether its page holds 5 tweets or 20. data[], text, likeCount and viewCount keep their names. These change:
| TweetAPI | Weir |
|---|---|
GET /tw-v2/search |
POST /v1/x/search |
X-API-Key header |
Authorization: Bearer |
type: Latest or Top |
sort: "latest" or "top" |
pagination.nextCursor |
meta.nextCursor, sent as cursor |
author.followerCount |
author.followersCount |
author.avatar |
author.profileImageUrl |
quotedTweet |
quotedPost |
retweetedTweet |
retweetedPost |
Both stop paging when the next cursor is null.
When not to use Weir
- You read X at volume. TweetAPI costs at least 4 times less per search tweet.
- You look up ids in bulk. One TweetAPI unit covers 100 profiles or 200 tweets.
- You need to post or send DMs. Weir is read-only.
- You need X Communities. TweetAPI has 12 community endpoints; Weir has none.
FAQ
How much does TweetAPI cost?
As of October 2026, TweetAPI's plans run from $17 a month for 100,000 units to $757 for 10 million. Prepaid packs start at $5 for 10,000 units. Most calls cost 1 unit, however many tweets they return.
Does TweetAPI have a free tier?
Yes: a one-time trial of 100 units at 10 requests a minute, with no card. Weir's 5,000 free credits come back every month, about 4,760 posts from search.
Is TweetAPI the same as TwitterAPI.io?
No. TweetAPI says they are different companies, and they bill differently: TweetAPI per call, TwitterAPI.io per result. We compare Weir and TwitterAPI.io on its own page.
Is Weir a good TweetAPI alternative?
For small monthly use, Reddit, or scheduled alerts, yes. For high-volume X reads, bulk id lookups or posting, TweetAPI fits better and costs less.
