Weir is a Syften alternative for developers who want raw Reddit and X posts in their code, rather than keyword alerts in an inbox.
Syften watches Reddit, Hacker News, forums, the web and more, and sends you the matches. Weir covers Reddit and X (Twitter) only, as an API. We run Weir, so every Syften fact here comes from Syften's own pages, checked on 22 October 2026.
Here is a Weir monitor that checks Reddit and X for your brand every day:
curl https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"name": "Brand mentions", "schedule": "daily",
"target": {"kind": "search", "query": "yourbrand", "sources": ["reddit", "x"]}}'
Syften alternative or Syften: which fits you?

Pick by the job:
- You want Reddit and forum alerts in Slack or email: choose Syften. Delivery and filtering are the product.
- You build a feature on Reddit or X data: choose Weir. Each post arrives with its full text and counts.
- Most of your mentions happen on X: look at Weir. Syften's add-on covers 1,000 posts a month before overage.
- You need Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Exchange or blogs: choose Syften, since Weir reads Reddit and X only.
Syften pricing: what each plan costs in October 2026
Syften lists three monthly plans on its home page. Every one starts with a 14-day trial of PRO, with no card.

What each plan covers, as of October 2026:
- Entry, $29.95 a month: 3 community filters, 100 community results a day, 1 web filter and 7 days of archive.
- Standard, $49.95 a month: 20 filters, 200 results a day, AI filtering, Slack and 30 days of archive.
- Syften PRO, $119.95 a month: 100 filters, 500 results a day, full archive history, webhooks and MCP.
- Every plan: Reddit posts and comments, and an API for your matches and filters.
Syften's docs mention annual billing, but the page lists monthly prices only, so we quote those.
The X add-on has its own quota
X monitoring runs apart from the community plans. Per Syften's docs, it costs $40 a month on Standard or PRO.
Posts that Syften's AI rejects still count toward that 1,000. The docs also say X filters can't use min_faves, min_replies or min_retweets.
YouTube is a separate $20 add-on.
Syften vs Weir: what one month of brand mentions costs
We priced one job on both: 3,000 Reddit posts and 2,000 X posts a month. That's about 100 Reddit matches a day.
- Syften Standard with X: $49.95 plus $40 is $89.95, which includes 1,000 X posts. The other 1,000 cost $40 in overage, for $129.95.
- Syften PRO with X: the same sum on PRO comes to $199.95.
- Weir, Reddit: 3,000 posts at 3 credits each is 9,000 credits.
- Weir, X: 2,000 posts at 1 credit each is 2,000 credits.
- Weir, runs: one hourly monitor runs 720 times a month, at 1 credit a run.
That's 11,720 credits. The free 5,000 leave 6,720 to buy. At the $5 pack's rate, that's $1.34 a month.
Hourly runs need a paid tier, which comes with any pack, from $5. So one $5 pack covers this job for more than three months.
A monitor reads about 20 new X posts per run. At 2,000 a month, that's under 3 an hour, so one monitor keeps up.
When to choose Syften
Choose Syften if you want alerts in Slack or email, or if your mentions live beyond Reddit and X.
Good
- Reddit posts and comments, aiming for under a minute
- Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Exchange, forums, podcasts and the web
- AI filtering per filter from the Standard plan
- Email, Slack, RSS, API and webhook delivery
- Archive search, up to full history on PRO
- A 14-day free trial of PRO with no card
Watch out
- X costs $40 more and includes 1,000 posts a month
- No minimum like, reply or repost counts on X
- Webhooks and MCP need the PRO plan
- No LinkedIn monitoring
When to choose Weir
Weir fits developers who want the posts themselves, in code or in an AI agent. Our social listening API page covers the full feature set.
Good
- Full post text, counts and authors as JSON
- 5,000 free credits every month, no card
- X priced like Reddit: per result, with no add-on
- Monitors and signed webhooks on every account
- A remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor
- Packs from $5 that never expire
Watch out
- Reddit and X only
- No AI filtering: you judge relevance yourself
- Monitors run daily on the free tier, hourly at best
- Reddit comments only inside communities you name
Weir's X search does take like, reply and repost floors. We asked for @github posts with 500 or more likes on 22 October 2026, leaving out reposts. Three came back for 4 credits; the newest, trimmed:

The other two had 553 and 962 likes. The floor is X's own filter, so a post just under it can slip in. Our guide to a Reddit and X brand mention monitor shows how to route posts like these.
When not to use Weir

- You need Reddit alerts within minutes. Syften aims for one minute; Weir monitors run hourly at best.
- You need comments across all of Reddit. Weir's Reddit search finds posts, and reads comments only in communities you name.
FAQ
What is a good Syften alternative?
It depends on the job. For raw Reddit and X data in code or an AI agent, Weir charges per result, with no X add-on. For AI-scored alerts that also cover LinkedIn, Octolens starts at $159 a month billed annually; see Weir vs Octolens. Weir reads public data only and isn't affiliated with Reddit or X.
How much does Syften cost?
As of October 2026, Syften Entry costs $29.95 a month, Standard $49.95 and Syften PRO $119.95. X monitoring adds $40 a month on Standard or PRO, with 1,000 posts included. YouTube adds $20. Each plan starts with a 14-day free trial.
Does Syften monitor X (Twitter)?
Yes, through a paid add-on on Standard and PRO. It takes up to 65 filters and 1,000 posts a month, with alerts up to 15 minutes late. Extra posts cost $0.04 each once you allow overage. Entry has no X option.
Does Syften have an API?
Yes. Every plan can read its matches and edit filters through Syften's API, up to 100 items per call. Archive search through the API, MCP and webhooks need Syften PRO. Weir's API searches Reddit and X directly, with no filters to set up first.
