Weir is a Brandwatch alternative for developers: an API that returns public Reddit and X posts per result, with no sales call or contract.
Brandwatch is a consumer intelligence suite, owned by Cision since 2021. For most PR, research and social teams, it's the better pick. We run Weir, so every Brandwatch fact here comes from Brandwatch's and Cision's own pages, checked on 22 October 2026.
Watching your brand on Reddit and X (Twitter) with Weir is one call:
curl https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"name": "Brand mentions", "schedule": "daily",
"target": {"kind": "search", "query": "yourbrand", "sources": ["reddit", "x"]}}'
Brandwatch alternative or Brandwatch: which fits you?
They solve different problems. Brandwatch is a research suite your team logs into; Weir is a data feed your code calls.
| Brandwatch | Weir | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Analysts and social teams | Developers and AI agents |
| Sources | 100 million+ online sources | Reddit and X |
| Price | Quote only, after a demo | Published, per result |
| API access | Enterprise clients | Every account, free included |
| X post text via API | Stripped out | Full text |
| API rate limit | 30 requests per 10 minutes | 30 to 600 a minute, by tier |
| Dashboards and AI | Built in | Bring your own |
Pick by the job:
- Your analysts report on many networks, news and forums: choose Brandwatch. Its archive holds posts back to 2008.
- You build a feature or an AI agent on Reddit or X data: choose Weir. Each post arrives as JSON with its full text.
- You also publish posts or run influencer campaigns: choose Brandwatch, since Weir is read-only.
- You can't wait for a sales cycle: Weir gives you a key at signup, with no card.
Brandwatch pricing: why there's no number to quote
Brandwatch doesn't publish prices. Its /pricing/ address redirects to a plans page, and that page sells by demo.

What the plans page shows, as of October 2026:
- Three solutions: Consumer Intelligence for researchers, Social Media Management, and Influencer Marketing.
- "Standard to enterprise plans" for each one, with no prices or limits.
- A "See it in action" button on every card, which leads to a free demo form.
- No free trial, anywhere on the page.
The closest thing to a public figure sits on the UK government's G-Cloud 15 marketplace. There, Cision's own listing calls its pricing bespoke, "typically starting around US$10,000/year," on mostly annual contracts.
Treat that as an estimate for UK public-sector buyers, not a quote. We left out third-party price guides, since none comes from Brandwatch.
Does Brandwatch have an API, and who gets it?
Yes. Brandwatch lists six APIs, and the main data one is the Consumer Research API.
Cision's G-Cloud 15 listing says it "provides a RESTful API to all Enterprise clients of the Brandwatch Consumer Research platform." So the API comes with an Enterprise contract, not a self-serve key.
How access works, per Brandwatch's own pages:
- Book a demoThe APIs page leads to the same demo form.
- Sign an Enterprise planThe Consumer Research API comes with Enterprise, per Cision.
- Get the right roleOnly "Regular" or "Admin" users can call the API.
- Request a tokenUse api.brandwatch.com/oauth/token. An API user's token lasts a year.
- Pull mentionsEach call names a project and query you built in Brandwatch.
What does the Brandwatch API return?
It returns mentions from your own Brandwatch queries, plus counts and analysis. It isn't an open search of the web.
- Mentions: a "Tweet, Comment, Blog Post, Forum Message, News Article, Image or Video," with its metadata.
- Rich fields: sentiment, reach estimate, location, and counts for X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Bluesky.
- Totals and analysis: mention counts per period, and an Analysis API for aggregated stats.
- Paging: up to 5,000 mentions a page, and 10,000 in total by page number alone.
The docs set a default rate limit of 30 requests every 10 minutes. Calls past it get a 429 error.
What a Reddit and X job costs on Weir
Brandwatch gives no price to set against, so here is Weir's side with every step. The job: 10,000 X posts and 10,000 Reddit posts a month about your brand.
- X: at about 20 posts a page, that's 500 calls. You pay 10,000 credits for posts and 500 for calls.
- Reddit: at 100 posts a call, that's 100 calls. Posts cost 30,000 credits, and calls add 100.
- Total: 40,600 credits. The free 5,000 leave 35,600 to buy.
- Price: at the $20 pack's rate of 120,000 credits, that comes to $5.93 a month.
One $20 pack covers about three months of this job, and bought credits never expire.
Bigger jobs use the smallest pack that covers them: $20 for the X month, $50 for Reddit.
These prices don't buy the same thing. A Brandwatch contract includes 100 million+ sources, an archive back to 2008, dashboards and AI analysis. Weir's price buys Reddit and X posts alone, and the analysis is your code's job.
When to choose Brandwatch
Choose Brandwatch if people, not code, act on the data, or if you need far more than Reddit and X.
Good
- Over 100 million online sources, with posts back to 2008
- Dashboards, AI analysis, reports and alerts for analysts
- Publishing, a social inbox and an influencer database in one suite
- Six APIs, including analysis and data upload
Watch out
- No public prices: every plan starts with a demo
- API access for Enterprise clients only
- X post text is stripped from API results
- 30 API requests per 10 minutes by default
When to choose Weir
Weir fits developers who want the posts themselves, in code or in an AI agent. Our social listening API page shows the full feature set.
Good
- Full post text, counts and authors as JSON
- 5,000 free credits every month, no card
- Search any keyword or account, with no project to set up
- Monitors that send only new posts, by signed webhook
- A remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor
- Prices published per result, with packs from $5
Watch out
- Reddit and X only: no news, blogs or other networks
- No dashboards, sentiment or reach scores
- Monitors run daily on the free tier, hourly at best
We ran a Weir search of Brandwatch's own X account on 22 October 2026, leaving out reposts. Three posts came back for 4 credits, all replies. The newest, trimmed:
{
"id": "2097404432933662927",
"text": "@drinkgaragebeer Stats on stats on stats!!! Love being a part of your journey!",
"createdAt": "2026-09-08T19:19:19.000Z",
"author": { "username": "Brandwatch", "followersCount": 34069 },
"likeCount": 1,
"viewCount": 243
}
That text field is what Brandwatch's API strips from X posts. Our guide to a Reddit and X brand mention monitor shows the whole setup.
When not to use Weir
- Your team wants dashboards and reports, not code. Brandwatch is built for that.
- You need news, forums, reviews or other networks. Weir reads Reddit and X only.
- You want sentiment out of the box. Weir returns posts, and you score them yourself.
- You need to post or reply. Weir is read-only, while Brandwatch's suite can publish.
FAQ
What is the best Brandwatch alternative?
It depends on who uses the data. For raw Reddit and X posts in code or an AI agent, Weir charges per result. For dashboards across news and social, compare Brand24 or Meltwater. Weir isn't affiliated with Reddit or X.
How much does Brandwatch cost?
Brandwatch publishes no prices as of October 2026; its plans page sells through a demo. Cision's UK G-Cloud 15 listing says its pricing is bespoke, "typically starting around US$10,000/year." Treat that as an estimate, not a quote.
Does Brandwatch have an API?
Yes. The Consumer Research API returns mentions, counts and analysis from your Brandwatch queries, and Cision says it's for Enterprise clients. The default limit is 30 requests every 10 minutes, and X post text is stripped out.
Is Brandwatch part of Cision?
Yes. Cision closed its purchase of Brandwatch on 1 June 2021, per the press release on Brandwatch's site. Brandwatch still sells under its own name.
