Weir is an Octolens alternative for developers: an API that returns raw Reddit and X posts per result, where Octolens sends AI-filtered alerts.
Octolens watches more than a dozen sources and scores each mention for you. Weir covers Reddit and X (Twitter) only, and your code does the judging. We run Weir, so every Octolens fact here comes from Octolens' own pages, checked on 22 October 2026.
Watching your brand on Reddit and X with Weir is one call:
curl https://api.weirapp.io/v1/monitors \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"name": "Brand mentions", "schedule": "daily",
"target": {"kind": "search", "query": "yourbrand", "sources": ["reddit", "x"]}}'
Octolens alternative or Octolens: which fits you?
They come at the same job from opposite ends. Octolens collects mentions and judges them; Weir hands you the posts and lets your code judge.
| Octolens | Weir | |
|---|---|---|
| Returns | AI-scored mentions | Raw posts and profiles |
| Sources | Reddit, X, LinkedIn and more | Reddit and X |
| Relevance, sentiment | Built in | Bring your own |
| Posts and comments, real time | Posts; comments by community | |
| X | English only, no reposts | Any language, reposts optional |
| Refresh | Hourly on Pro, real time on Scale | Daily free, hourly paid |
| Cheapest plan | $159 a month, billed annually | Free, 5,000 credits a month |
| Alerts | Slack, email, webhooks | Signed webhooks |
Pick by the job:
- Your marketing or support team reads the alerts: choose Octolens. Relevance scores, sentiment and Slack routing are the product.
- You build a feature on Reddit or X data: choose Weir. Each post arrives as JSON with its full text and counts.
- You track LinkedIn, GitHub, YouTube or app reviews: choose Octolens, since Weir reads Reddit and X only.
- You want an AI agent to read mentions: either works. Octolens has an MCP server on every plan, and Weir's works on every account.
- You need X posts in any language: choose Weir. Octolens' platform docs say its X tracking is English only.
Octolens pricing: what each plan costs in October 2026
Octolens sells three plans, and its pricing page opens on the annual view.

Switch the toggle to Monthly and both plans cost more:
What each plan covers, as of October 2026:
- Pro: 15,000 mentions a month, 10 keywords, hourly refresh and 2 years of history.
- Scale: 50,000 mentions and 40 keywords, real-time refresh, plus podcasts, news, newsletters and the web.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, unlimited mentions and keywords, several workspaces and custom AI agents.
- Every plan: AI relevance, tags and sentiment, Slack and email alerts, webhooks, the API, an MCP server and unlimited seats.
Going over the quota doesn't stop collection. Extra mentions cost $0.013 each on Pro and $0.01 on Scale, and you can set a monthly spend cap.
One line in Octolens' docs matters for budgets: every collected mention counts toward the quota, "whether the AI marks it relevant or not."
A 7-day free trial covers Pro features and up to 5,000 mentions, with no card.
Octolens vs Weir: what 15,000 mentions a month cost
Octolens Pro holds 15,000 mentions, so we priced the same volume on Weir: 10,000 X posts and 5,000 Reddit posts.
- Octolens Pro: $199 a month billed monthly, or $159 a month billed annually. It covers every Octolens source, not just these two.
- Weir, X: 10,000 posts at 1 credit each is 10,000 credits.
- Weir, Reddit: 5,000 posts at 3 credits each is 15,000 credits.
- Weir, runs: one hourly monitor runs 720 times in a 30-day month, at 1 credit a run.
That's 25,720 credits. The free 5,000 leave 20,720 to buy. At the $20 pack's rate, that's $3.45 a month.
Two limits shape the Weir side. Hourly runs need a paid tier, which comes with any pack, from $5. And each run reads one page of about 20 new X posts.
That's about 14 X posts an hour on average, so a busy hour can lose its oldest posts. Split a busy keyword across more monitors: each adds 720 credits a month, about 12 cents.
Past the quota, the gap widens. Octolens Pro charges $13 per 1,000 extra mentions. On Weir, 1,000 more X posts cost about 17 cents at the $20 pack's rate.
When to choose Octolens

We ran a Weir search of Octolens' own X account on 22 October 2026, leaving out reposts. Three posts came back for 4 credits. The newest, trimmed:

When not to use Weir
- Your team wants a dashboard and Slack alerts with no code. Octolens is built for that.
- You need LinkedIn, GitHub, podcasts or reviews. Weir reads Reddit and X only.
- You want relevance and sentiment out of the box. Weir returns posts, and you score them.
- You need alerts within minutes. Octolens Scale refreshes in real time; Weir monitors run hourly at best.
FAQ
What is the best Octolens alternative?
It depends on who reads the results. For raw Reddit and X posts in code or an AI agent, Weir charges per result. For cheaper AI-filtered alerts, Syften's Standard plan is $49.95 a month; see Weir vs Syften. For news and podcasts too, compare Brand24.
How much does Octolens cost?
As of October 2026, Octolens Pro costs $199 a month billed monthly, or $159 a month billed annually. It includes 15,000 mentions. Scale costs $599 billed monthly, or $499 billed annually, for 50,000. Enterprise is custom. Extra mentions cost $0.013 each on Pro and $0.01 on Scale.
Is there a free Octolens alternative?
Octolens has no free plan, only its 7-day trial. Weir's free tier gives 5,000 credits a month with no card: about 4,700 X posts through the search API. It allows one monitor, run daily or weekly. Weir reads public data only and isn't affiliated with Reddit or X.
Does Octolens have an API?
Yes. Octolens' REST API v2 is on every plan and takes a bearer key. It reads the mentions your keywords have collected, at up to 500 requests an hour per organization. Weir's API searches Reddit and X directly, with no keywords to set up first.
