The SocialData API sells public X (Twitter) data for $0.0002 per tweet or profile, with no subscription and no free plan.
Weir charges about the same per tweet, adds Reddit and gives 5,000 free credits every month. We run Weir, so every SocialData fact here comes from socialdata.tools and its docs, checked on 22 October 2026.
Moving a SocialData profile lookup to Weir is one call:
curl https://api.weirapp.io/v1/x/users/github \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $WEIR_API_KEY"
SocialData API or Weir: which fits you?
Both bill per result from a prepaid balance that never expires. The real differences are free credits, monitor speed and Reddit.
| SocialData | Weir | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | Per result | Per result, plus 1 per call |
| 1,000 tweets | $0.20 | $0.105 to $0.21 |
| 1,000 profiles | $0.20 | $0.20 to $0.60 |
| Free credits | None, demo on request | 5,000 every month |
| Smallest top-up | Any amount | $5 pack |
| Rate limit | 120 a minute | 30 to 600 a minute, by tier |
| Monitors | Within 30 seconds | Daily or hourly |
| Platforms | X | X and Reddit |
Neither one can post, like or follow. Both say failed calls cost nothing.
SocialData API pricing: $0.20 per 1,000 results
SocialData bills each item a call returns, not the call itself. A search page of 20 tweets costs 20 × $0.0002 = $0.004.

Read the fine print too:
- Empty results are free for 3 requests a minute. After that, each one costs $0.0002.
- An empty balance returns
402 Payment Required, so you top up before you call. - No free plan. The FAQ says support "might be able to setup a free demo account."
- Refunds: unused deposits come back within 14 days, "no questions asked."
- Big projects can ask for a lower custom rate.
Weir's packs run from $5 to $1,000. Its free credits cover about 4,760 tweets a month.
What 10,000 and 1 million tweets a month cost
Both examples assume search, where each API returns about 20 tweets per page.
At 10,000 tweets a month:
- SocialData: 10,000 × $0.0002 = $2.00, with no fee per call.
- Weir: 500 calls + 10,000 posts = 10,500 credits. Less 5,000 free, you pay for 5,500: $1.10 at the $5 pack's rate.
You buy that $5 pack once, and it lasts about four and a half months.
At 1 million tweets a month:
- SocialData: 1,000,000 × $0.0002 = $200, before any custom rate.
- Weir: 50,000 calls + 1,000,000 posts = 1,050,000 credits. Less 5,000 free, you pay for 1,045,000: $104.50 at the $1,000 pack's rate.
Weir's batch lookup, up to 100 ids a call, brings its cost down to $3.02.
SocialData endpoints: search, user tweets and followers
SocialData has about 30 data endpoints for X, all plain REST calls with a Bearer key.
- Search takes any X advanced search operator, sorted
LatestorTop, about 20 tweets a page. - User tweets come from
/twitter/user/{user_id}/tweets, ortweets-and-repliesfor both. - Followers and following need the numeric user ID and page with
next_cursor. - Bulk lookups take up to 100 tweet IDs or profiles in one POST.
- Communities, Lists, Spaces and articles each have endpoints too.
- The rate limit is 120 requests a minute per key, raised at no charge for big apps.
Weir has 25 X endpoints and 12 for Reddit. It covers search, timelines, followers, Lists and Spaces, but not Communities.
Are SocialData monitors and webhooks faster?
Yes. SocialData's user monitors usually push an event within 30 seconds, while Weir's run on a schedule.
- SocialData user monitors watch new tweets, new follows or profile changes, for a flat hourly fee.
- SocialData search monitors bill $0.0002 per tweet found, or per run that finds nothing. The default 30-second refresh costs about $17.28 a month at minimum.
- SocialData webhooks are signed with HMAC-SHA256 in an
X-Signatureheader. - Weir monitors come in seven kinds across X and Reddit, with signed webhooks. A run costs 1 credit plus its new results.
Weir's monitors run daily on the free tier and hourly on paid tiers. An hourly watch is about 730 runs a month.
How to get a SocialData API key
You sign up, create a key and add funds before your first call.

The MCP server at api.socialdata.tools/mcp takes the same key and has 14 read-only tools. SocialData's FAQ says claude.ai and ChatGPT connectors aren't supported, because they need OAuth.
Weir's X MCP server signs in with OAuth, so it works in both.

Migrating from SocialData to Weir
On SocialData, a profile is a GET with a Bearer key:
curl "https://api.socialdata.tools/twitter/user/github" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SOCIALDATA_API_KEY"
Weir's is the call at the top. We ran that lookup through Weir's MCP server on 22 October 2026, and it cost 3 credits. Trimmed:
{
"id": "13334762",
"username": "github",
"name": "GitHub",
"followersCount": 2724229,
"followingCount": 334,
"statusesCount": 10997,
"createdAt": "2008-02-11T04:41:50.000Z"
}
Field names move from snake_case to camelCase:
| SocialData | Weir |
|---|---|
/twitter/user/{username} |
/v1/x/users/{user} |
GET /twitter/search |
POST /v1/x/search |
next_cursor |
meta.nextCursor |
screen_name |
username |
followers_count |
followersCount |
friends_count |
followingCount |
full_text |
text |
favorite_count |
likeCount |
Weir's counts can be null when X didn't report them, so don't read a missing count as zero.
When not to use Weir
- You need alerts within seconds. SocialData's user monitors fire within 30 seconds; Weir's run hourly at best.
- Your job is mostly profile lookups. SocialData charges less per profile on every Weir pack but the largest.
- You need follow checks or X Communities. Only SocialData has them.
- You need to post. Neither can, so use the official X API.
FAQ
How much does the SocialData API cost?
As of October 2026, most SocialData endpoints cost $0.0002 per item, or $0.20 per 1,000 tweets or profiles. You prepay any amount, and the balance never expires. Follow checks cost more, at $0.004 each.
Does SocialData have a free trial?
Not a self-serve one. Its FAQ says there is no free plan, though support might set up a free demo account. You can sign up without a card, but calls need a positive balance. Weir gives 5,000 free credits every month instead.
How do I get a SocialData API key?
Sign up at socialdata.tools and create a key in your dashboard. Send it as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY. Keys don't expire, and one key works for the REST API, monitors and the MCP server.
Is SocialData an official X API?
No. SocialData's site says it is an independent third-party service, not affiliated with X Corp. It reads public data only and can't post. Weir is independent too: it isn't affiliated with X or Reddit, and it only reads.
